In a previous comment on this thread, I reported the audio drop out problem on my Ultra on YouTubeTV. I am now at my 2nd home with a different Ultra. On this setup I get the same drop-out problem on YouTubeTV. However, I have a new problem on HBO Max. There is a ringing noise which overlays the audio track. I have to set the Roku audio settings to "Stereo" to eliminate the noise. It's weird that HBOMax worked fine on my other setup. Here are the details of this 2nd setup:


Model 4660X - Roku Ultra
Serial number YJO03H062959
Software version 11.5.0 • build 4235-46
Device ID CK3953062959

The Roku is connected to a Denon AVR which passes video through to a Vizio TV.

@RokuDanny-R Can we get files and instructions for roll back to 11.0 please?

I had a second Ultra that had not updated (still 11.0). Moved it to the room where I"ve been having the issue. Everything worked great. Then it automatically updated to 11.5... now same drop outs... so none of my units work now.

Agreed- please roll back to 11.0 immediately. Please provide instructions.
Rokus are nearly unusable at the moment.

I'm having this exact issue as well and about to scrap my Roku.  I love it but this is driving me crazy 🤪.  Do you have any ETA on a resolution or any communication to share?  Thank you

Using Onkyo TX-SR605 for sound.

Audio Dropouts every few seconds on YouTube TV.  I didn't notice it on other apps. . 

I tried updating the YoutubeTV app but it was updated.

I removed the channel from the Roku and readded it but that didn't help

Two other units which don't use an HDMI AVR connection don't seem to exhibit this.

Appreciate any help asap.  I'm having this exact issue as well and about to scrap my Roku.  I love it but this is driving me crazy 🤪.  Do you have any ETA on a resolution or any communication to share?  Thank you

The temporary workaround I am using is to default to Stereo in the YouTube app:

1. Navigate to YouTubeTV (YTTV) app from Roku.

2. In YTTV, Scroll to the far upper right and click on your profile picture.

3. Select Settings, and select 5.1 Audio. 

4. Where "Surround Sound" is highlighted, select it to say "OFF".

5. Use the left arrow to back out of the settings.

This should get you basic stereo onky sound that doesn't cut out every 5 seconds.

@eprzyzycki thanks for the info. I ended up turning stereo on at the Roku level that affected all channels of course. I put the Roku back to DD+/DTS-HD for audio and then in the YouTube TV app I turned 5.1 off like you said. No more audio dropouts and at least I'm only affecting YTTV.

Re: 5.1 surround sound no ultra device having issue

Hi @swuede78 

We'd be happy to assist you with this. 

I can see that your Roku device is connected to an audio/video receiver (AVR) or soundbar, you may need to set volume modes to ‘Off’ to hear the surround sound format. Try this and see if it helps. 

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote 
  2. Scroll and select Settings
  3. Select Audio
  4. Select Volume modes and choose Off: Volume modes are inactive and content volume is unmodified.

Some customers have reported this resolves the issue. Try giving that a shot. For more information, this support article may help: How to use volume modes on your Roku streaming device
