HDCP error on Roku Streaming Stick 4K

Have a Roku Streaming Stick 4K which had occasionally worked and now fails completely.  Constantly receive message about not HDCP compatible.  I have verified with the TV manufacturer that the TV is in fact fully compatible with the latest standard.  This streaming stick had worked for the past 2 months and now doesn't.

It appears that Roku must have made some change to their O/S to cause it to constantly fail.

Probably should have just bought a Smart TV instead of this dumb device.

Re: HDCP error on Roku Streaming Stick 4K

What model is the streaming stick?  How old is it?

It is unlikely an OS issue, unless you are using an old version of the OS.  It is more likely the stick is failing or the HDMI connector in the stick is failing.

Others would argue that the smart TV has more issues than using a smart device, which is cheaper to replace if something goes wrong with it than a smart TV that has an issue or the operating system becomes obsolete for that TV.

Re: HDCP error on Roku Streaming Stick 4K

As I stated, this was purchased approximately 2 or 3 months ago.  It is the Streaming Stick 4K, model 3820X2.

It worked fine for the first couple of months; now constant error.

Neither the TV or the Streaming Stick have been moved since the installation.  I have tried all of the steps suggested by Roku - they all fail.

With a Smart TV, I can get direct service from the manufacturer and often free extended warranties.  Roku's answers seem to be just buy another one.  Besides the replacement cost, there is just the added effort of going thru the wasted motions of trying all the suggested fixes.

Re: HDCP error on Roku Streaming Stick 4K

You didn't exactly state you purchased it 2 to 3 months ago, you said it worked for 2 months and then had an issue, so it wasn't clear that it is a new device as lots of people get used devices or start using an old device after a period of time.

It is possible that the HDMI port on the TV is also going bad.  Those ports do go bad from time to time especially if devices are plugged into them frequently or even power surges can damage them.

I suggest trying the Roku stick in another TV and see if you have the same issue to narrow down whether the issue lies in the Roku or the TV.  If you can determine the Roku stick has an issue and it is 2 to 3 months old as you stated, I would contact Roku for a warranty replacement as they are warrantied for a year.

I concur that trouble shooting on another TV may help pinning down where the problem lies.    If your current TV has other HDMI ports you might try connecting to them as well.

Re: HDCP error on Roku Streaming Stick 4K

How old is an older TV? My 2008 Samsung is fine. If yours is newer, then "older" may not be the issue.

One thing that's I've noticed is that HDMI connectors tend to be kind of loose, and occasionally I need to jiggle Dad's HDMI connector from his cable box and then it's good for a couple of weeks. I would think a stick might be extra-sensitive to this since you have some mass hanging off that wimpy port.

Banned but back. Because why not?

Re: HDCP error on Roku Streaming Stick 4K

I have two Roku sticks purchased in the last year and a brand new Hisense TV in November seems every 4-8 weeks I have to completely reset the sticks to work I find it a pain because my smart tv has all the apps I just wanted to connect my paid global tv but now might see if it work on the new tv without using Roku. I initially bought it to watch my Sports Net when not at home but then found out you can’t use SN on a Roku only Amazon stick

Re: HDCP error on Roku Streaming Stick 4K

Well seems this is a regular thing.  New TV won’t change ussue. I bought two Roku sticks in the last year and have to constantly reset them to stop power issue. If reset and they work it’s a malfunction by Roku plain and simple. It seems they use every excuse of HDmI and USB or your own power plug connection.  And they say they will for free send you an extender but it never arrives to help with the situation.this is a technical issue within the Roku stick nothing else but excuses allow them to lead others to keep buying or replacing. I am done with the environmental waste of product and lack of providing the service that is to be rendered upon purchase.  This is nothing more than the new way of imposing regular cash cow fees to keep money flowing into a business regularly
