Re: Roku Express 4K+ Does not Stream ANYTHING

We changed to both 2.5 and 5. Neither worked.

When you say crashed, your Roku device may just be losing connection with your network. (could be a simple network setting, a strength issue, or an internet speed issue.)  Could also be a device issue, but usually save that - and factory resetting for the last step.

If restarting both the Roku and the Router seems to resolve the issue (and lets you stream a few episodes, but then crashes again), it is most likely that some auto settings in your router are switching to incompatible wireless channels and causing the disconnection.

Since you know how to access your router settings, try configuring your settings to these recommended/default settings and see if your connection stabilizes.

2.4 GHZ BAND

1. Radio is On/Enabled
2. SSID (network name) is On/Broadcasting
3. Network Mode/Protocol is set to b/g/n (Mixed Mode)
4. Bandwidth/Channel Width is set to 20mhz
5. Wireless Channel is set between 1 and 11 (preferably 1, 6 , or 11). Try changing and using different channels. Roku cannot see or use 12,13,14.

* Restart both your Router and your Roku after making above changes.

5.0 GHZ BAND

1. Radio is On/Enabled
2. SSID (network name) is On/Broadcasting
3. Network Mode/Protocol is set to N/AC
4. Bandwidth/Channel Width is set to 20mhz or 20/40 mhz
5. Wireless Channel is set between 36-48 (low frequency band) or 149-161 (high frequency band). Roku cannot see or use channels 52-140 (DFS Channels) which an Auto Setting may be choosing. If your router allows you to Disable DFS Channels, then an Auto Setting may be used after successful troubleshooting.

Restart both your Router and Roku devices(s) after making the above changes.

Post back with an update or if you need more help. Include your router model number and ISP. (internet service provider) as additional or model specific troubleshooting instructions may be available.

Re: Roku Express 4K+ Does not Stream ANYTHING

@Nivlak12  Please go to network on your Roku and run a check connection. You will see a speed test rating after it is done. You will see something like “Good 40 Mbps”. Do that and report back your results. You should also see a signal strength

Re: Roku Express 4K+ Does not Stream ANYTHING

The only info the connection results yield are, "Connection check was sucessful. For additional help, visit go roku com/checkconnection."

No actual mbps is displayed.

I have found in "About" where it says the signal strength is excellent, the wireless channel is 153, and the internet download speed is "Good (6 mpbs)"

Re: Roku Express 4K+ Does not Stream ANYTHING

Bingo. Found the issue. 6 Mbps is not enough bandwidth to stream. How fast is your internet. Meaning what speed are you paying for? You need at least 25-50 Mbps to stream with no issues. Netflix requires at least 5 Mbps. With 6 Mbps your barely getting by. My Roku speed tests range from 80 -190 Mbps. You need to upgrade your internet speed. Basically your internet is not fast enough to stream. Especially in HD. Go to Fast.com on your laptop or phone. What does it say for speed? Also how far away is your Roku to your modem?

Re: Roku Express 4K+ Does not Stream ANYTHING

Our internet is slow, but when we streamed on our PS4 this was never an issue. Everything from Hulu, Disney+, HBO, etc. all worked. As mentioned before, when it works - it works. We stream entire movies and shows no issues. But apps just crash in Roku and it takes ten or so restarts to get it to play. When it does play, there is no playback or buffering issue.

Your internet is not fast enough to stream successfully. You can go to any website that allows you to do a bandwidth calculator. More devices means more bandwidth. But 6 Mbps is no where near enough. I’m not even home and here is what I’m getting in a store WiFi

Re: Roku Express 4K+ Does not Stream ANYTHING

Fast.com says we have 8. Our modem is in the same room. We live in a very rural town and higher speeds are not an option. Again, we have had zero issue streaming in the 7 years we have lived in the same house with same ISP. The issue only started with the Roku. Our phones, PCs, and game systems have no trouble using the internet to stream or connect to games.

HBO Max requires a minimum of 5 Mbps. That’s minimum. Which means you need at least twice that if not more. You can upgrade to the Roku Ultra which as an Ethernet port in it so you can hardwire it
