Is the $99 home monitoring system required in order to utilize other Roku home products? If not, which products don’t require then initial 99$ home monitoring system. Is it worth it to go with the home monitoring system bundle first?
The home monitoring system (base station, contact sensors, motion sensors, and key pad) is its own system. Lightbulbs, cameras, doorbells all use WiFi.
The HMS also uses WiFi but only for the base station, the contact sensors and motion sensor communicates via RF
Hi @Dfresh567,
Kindest regards from the Roku Community.
Roku cameras and doorbells are already packed with features to make home monitoring a breeze. A subscription will allow you to access more features such as automatic motion and sound recording, cloud storage to view recordings for up to 14 days, plus intelligent detection that identifies people, packages, pets, and cars and only gives you the notifications you want.
When you set up a new Roku Smart Home camera or doorbell, you automatically get a free 14-day trial of a Roku Smart Home Subscription.
For more information about the access and features of the subscription, visit the Roku official website for the Roku Smart Home Subscription
We hope this clarifies your inquiry.
All the best,
Kash
As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Roku's home monitoring system, known as the "Roku Smart Soundbar with built-in Roku streaming," was not required to utilize other Roku home products like Roku streaming devices or Roku TVs. Each Roku product typically functions independently, allowing you to access streaming content without the need for additional home monitoring equipment.
Roku may have introduced new products or services since then, so I recommend visiting the official Roku website or contacting Roku's customer support for the most up-to-date information on their product offerings and bundles. Whether it's worth it to purchase the home monitoring system bundle first depends on your specific needs and preferences. Consider your entertainment and home monitoring requirements to determine if the bundle aligns with your goals and budget.
