Re: Smart Home app demands I enable two-factor authentication - even after turning it off

AGAIN firstly - to anyone from ROKU who might be reading this -- take your 2FA and shove it !!

Yes, ideally when I am on my COMPUTER and logging into my account, I don't mind a 2FA - when I am using the app to see who just pressed my doorbell OR a package has been detected - I am NOT & should not HAVE to enter my phone number for 2FA, if this is the practice you now employ - you can take your Smart Home **bleep** and shove them !!

Secondly to anyone else - for those of you who mentioned using other brand devices like RING, who do NOT require a 2FA, could you please recommend them - are there any doorbell cameras like ROKU (maybe RING) who does NOT employ this 2FA garbage  😡🖕 for using the app ??

THANK YOU !!

I will no longer purchase Roku home devices until 2fa is disabled by default. This is so inconvenient for families.

"You" are requiring two-factor authentication? Even though, I too, will be returning all things ROKU and getting my money back.

WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS! You are NOT a bank, GD it!

If your hardware is not "secure", you should fix it or not release it.

I have a TV and some light bulbs that I cannot use because "You" are requiring two-factor authentication. And it isn't like we didn't try. It is "you" who are blowing it.

We thought Roku was cool and now, we hate you. Good job.

I am not from USA, but I bought a **bleep** ******* smart lightbulb which I cant even setup because I don't have an USA phone number, this is the dumbest thing I have ever witnessed.

I was so looking forward to using the app on my tablet, but it does not have a sim card, and even if I use E=mail to verify, the app immediately changes to enable two-factor authentication... This will NOT work for me.   I am rethinking my use of ROKU, I am considering moving to ALEXA and FireTV from Amazon since their hardware will work with my smart home devices and ROKU obviously will NOT.   I was really getting used to using the RoKU devices, paying my subscriptions through the ROKU billing methods and now I have to rethink my strategy as I add security devices and cameras..   NO I will not consider getting a Cell Phone number just so that ROKU can force me to use one for verification.   The decision to force me to use this authentication method had to be made by a compete idiot.   Please fire the moron that made this decision and e-mail me when you have a solution that I can use without a cellular account.

I will most certainly not enjoy my Roku experience since they are apparently allowing Idiots, Morons, or children to set policy.

You can turn off 2fa on your account page on my.roku.com: https://my.roku.com/account/edit

@chuperstein No. It demands it be put back on to access cameras with the roku home app. I stopped my subscription now so they can keep their app. What's next, i will need to receive a text to turn on my lights

In regards to instructions provided by Community Moderator @RokuArjiemar

You are wrong. Turning off 2fa in account info DOES NOT stop 2fa from being required to log in to the Roku Smart Home app. When installing the Roku Smart Home app, 2fa IS REQUIRED even though it has been disabled in account info settings.

Just chiming in here with everyone else. I just started a return for the 2 smart plugs I bought yesterday because of this 2fa bs. Bye!
