If that wasn't some fluke, like the Roku thought it needed an update for some reason, the something has changed in the Roku OS. I really hope that isn't the case, but if it's accurate, then the only recourse would be to buy one of those inexpensive Android based media players that has a USB port, and use that instead of a Roku. I know those will boot without an Internet connection.
