Roku with Monitor and Remote

Jump to solution

There have been multiple posts here that are peripherally related to this question, but none that directly answer it.

I'm investigating using a 22" monitor with speakers with a Roku Express instead of using a TV with a remote.  There does not appear to be any 22" computers monitors that use a remote, so remote volume control has to come from the Roku.

If you use the upgraded remote with a volume control with a Roku express, does it change the volume at the Roku Express component or does it have to pair with the monitor?  If the only way to change volume is by the remote communicating with the TV / monitor, it appears that you are out of luck if your monitor does not have a remote capability.

It has to pair with the monitor/speakers.  No Roku remote controls the output volume of a Roku device that doesn't contain speakers itself.  You can connect a Streambar to the monitor and the remote will control the volume of the Streambar.

Thanks for clearly answering my question.  I'll look into an inexpensive TV with a remote.

I appreciate your answer, but the Roku audio devices are more than I need for a kitchen TV.  There are very few TV's small enough for my kitchen space, so I'm trying to make a monitor work with a Streaming Stick.  The remote works except for volume and power on/off.  The monitor has speakers connected via 3.5mm aux.

In another room, I have a Roku Ultra connected to a large Samsung TV where the Roku remote works for all functions including power on/off and volume.  I borrowed the Ultra to connect to the kitchen monitor but it can't control power on/ off or volume on that.  What would that Samsung TV have that let's a Roku voice remote fully function where it wouldn't handle power or volume on the monitor.  I'm wondering if I got a monitor with built-in speakers if the Roku voice remote would be fully functional with that.  Any thoughts on that?

Thanks!

Does the monitor claim that it can be controlled by a remote?  I don’t think any of mine do. If you find one that does, then it will be a question of whether it uses a common TV codeset or they came up with something just for a monitor that Roku may know nothing about.

Banned but back. Because why not?
