I have a simple remote for a Roku Stick. but the TV i am using is a
INSIGNIA 32" LED TV Model NS-32D220NA18. my Roku stick is plugged in to a port behind the TV.
i am having issue with direct line of sight to the stick, since it is in the back. what can i do to resolve this issue?
Assuming when you say "Roku stick" you mean an Express or Express 4k streaming player, and not an actual Roku Streaming Stick/Stick 4k/Stick 4k+.
The Streaming Sticks will come with a RF (wifi) remote.
Some of the Roku streaming players come with an IR (line of sight) simple remote, and others with a RF (wifi) remote.
If you do not want to purchase a longer HDMI and power cable to bring the device into the front of the TV so your remote can see it, you can always purchase a Roku Voice Remote (batteries) or Voice Remote Pro (rechargeable) and pair it with your streaming player.
You can see these on Roku website, but can also buy these Roku remotes at Walmart, Best Buy, Target, etc. https://www.roku.com/products/accessories
Either of the following will work.
Voice Remote: (Takes 2 Triple A Batteries)

Voice Remote Pro: (Has Rechargeable Battery With Charging Cable)

You have to pair them to your Roku player or stick and it will work without needing to have line of sight to the device.

And to add what @AvsGunnar said, if you really do have a Roku Stick player (one that plugs directly into the TV without a cable) then a basic IR remote won't work, regardless of line of sight. None of the Stick models support an IR remote, since by design they have to be installed behind the TV where line of sight won't work.
What type of remote will work with the stick behind the TV,since IR remote will not?

Crazy question. My Roku is an express and it has a remote that requires line of sight however even though it's an ir remote and the player has an ir receiver, it still works without line if sight which makes no sense. As in I use a projector with the Roku adhered to the projector with both the projector and Roku IR receivers pointing up. The projector is on the floor pointing up. I use the remote laying in bed and so the remote does not have direct line of sight with the receiver yet it still works. Even with a blanket in the way. Not sure why though.
IR will bounce/reflect off of pretty much anything and will go through some fabrics, but if you put your hand over the end it won't go through that. If it does, you're a ghost or it's not an IR remote. 🙂
