I am streaming my Roku stick 4k through a projector but cannot get sound to work.

Jump to solution

Hi all- I hooked up my Roku streaming stick 4K to a projector. When going through the setup it asked me to choose what brand of TV I was connecting with. I was able to cancel that portion of the setup and get through everything else.

I can stream video, but audio isn't working. I am using an aux cord that plugs into the projector directly from my speakers.

Any advice as to how I can get volume to work would be super helpful.

thanks!

Hi @SVT1,

A warm welcome to the Roku Community!

Thanks for sharing your concerns about using a projector with a Roku Streaming Stick 4K. If the projector has an HDMI input, you could use any Roku player.

In this case, you can plug it directly into the projector HDMI jack without a cable. Of course, if you're going to feed the projector with multiple devices (e.g., a Blu-ray player and/or other video playback devices), you'll need a way to select different devices.

This is easiest to do when using an Audio/Video receiver (AVR). You connect everything to the AVR and run a single HDMI cable from the AVR to the projector.

This also gives you the benefit of having a full complement of speakers. You don't want to listen to a movie through whatever speaker the projector has.

Please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

All the best,
Chel

Hey there. I’m setting up the Roku stick and came across that question of “TV brand”.  I am not setting to TV but to a projector in the basement.    How did you bypass that???

I am streaming my Roku Express 4K through my Epson Cinema Series projector, Yamaha AVR. When I plug the Roku into the projector directly I get picture, etc - but have no sound. When I plug the Roku into my Yamaha AVR - I get sound but no picture.

Everything else we have connected (Cable receiver, blue ray) are plugged into the AVR and work fine - video from the projector with audio from surround sound. This not at all. HELP
