Bought a new Roku Exp 4K+, was used. Had someone else's account, credit card, PIN and email

Bought a new Roku Exp 4K+ thru Roku's Amazon Store. Arrived promptly in what looked like perfectly new packaging. But wasnt. Upon hookup I noticed had someone else's email/accout, credit card, PIN on it. Also the remote included was not as indicated in the quick start guide.  I noted that the small plastic piece to activate the batteries had already been removed.

This is just poor you your part.  Selling obviously used equipment as new. Opening your client up to fraud on her credit card, and you to liability and not including the standard remote. It's just bad on so many levels.

I was able to use FAQs online to perform a factory reset. And secondly to pair the remote which did not have a pair button as suggested in the quick start guide

I did protect the prior owner and did not use her account or credit. It is all wiped now but I know her name most likely was Karen as it was embedded in her email.

You need to do better for yourselves and your customers. You need quality control and process improvement. Dont sell used product as new.  I have 6 Rokus - none had this poor experience.

@robrr  If you are within the return window, I would return that back to Amazon as you most likely got someone's used defective return that had some type of issue.

AMZ has a bad habit of putting returns back as new if they look like they were returned new and unopened.

Thx for the idea. Arrived last night so today is day 1. I have company arriving in 3 hours so will try it to see if it is stable or not.

I wasn't looking to save a buck. Was trying to alert roku of a real problem for them. And get them to clean up their act.

Yes, I understand, but that is more likely an AMZ issue as they do that regardless of who the manufacturer/brand is, especially if they are handling the storage and shipping.  It happened to me a couple of times to where I always write on the box that the item is bad or defective when I return it back, so they can't put it back as new.

It might not even be an issue/defect that you see right away. I would be concerned it is something that won't show up as a problem until after the return time has passed.

Re: Bought a new Roku Exp 4K+, was used. Had someone else's account, credit card, PIN and email

Hi @robrr,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention when purchasing a Roku device that is already being used via the Amazon Store and performing a factory reset to the device to sign up with a new account via a new email address.

In this case, we recommend reporting the listing to Amazon and explaining the problem with the product being labeled as new when it is used to see what options or suggestions they can provide.

Thank you for understanding.

Regards,
Chel

A few years ago, I went into a Home Depot for a Halogen light bulb. A roughly 3" long clear glass tube with a filament running the length of it. The helpful HD guy led me to the rack, pulled the one off the front and said: "Here you go." I said: "You expect me to buy this?" He said: "Why not?" I said: "Because it's brown and the filament is in a bunch of pieces rattling around the tube." He agreed that I was right and grabbed the next one. It was the same. The third one was OK. Returns are way too easy at some stores.

Banned but back. Because why not?
