4k stick with wifi extender NEEDED?

I have a 4K stick not being used. However, no longer has the original HDMI cord with wifi extender...If I purchase a HDMI cord, will this work without extender?
Router is in same room as TV

Re: 4k stick with wifi extender NEEDED?

Hi @rowanlo2,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

Thank you for sharing your concern with us about your Roku Streaming Stick 4K, which no longer has the original HDMI cord with a Wi-Fi extender. We would be more than willing to assist you with this issue.
To clarify are you talking about the USB power cable with a long-range Wi-Fi® receiver or the HDMI extender? Please check the difference below.

If you are inquiring about the HDMI Extender, please be aware that it is not a necessity for the Roku Streaming Stick 4K; it is simply an optional accessory. To ensure that your Roku device operates correctly, kindly take a look at the picture provided below, which highlights the essential accessories you will need during the setup process for a seamless streaming experience.

Re: 4k stick with wifi extender NEEDED?

@rowanlo2-

I think you're asking about using a plain USB power cable in place of the Roku Advanced Wireless Receiver cable.

The AWR (Advanced Wireless Receiver) is located in a nodule built into the USB power cord for recent Roku Streaming Stick models (model numbers above 3800) instead of being inside the Streaming Stick itself.  If this goes bad or is missing, the Roku cannot make a WiFi connection to your network, and its remote can't be paired with the Roku or issue the Roku any commands.  These Rokus cannot function if a plain USB power cord without the WiFi nodule is used.

Streaming Sticks 3810/3811 were supplied with the WR001 AWR. It connects to the Roku via a USB mini connector. Replacement WR001s are no longer available from Roku. Your best bet in this case is to update to a current Streaming Stick, or other current Roku model.  If contacted, Roku support may be willing to cut you a deal on your update.

4K Streaming Sticks 3820/3821 were supplied with the WR002 AWR. It connects to the Roku via a USB micro connector. The WR002's internal electronics are not compatible with Streaming Sticks 3810/3811 even if used with a USB micro-to-mini adapter. The WR002 is available from Roku for about $20: https://www.roku.com/products/accessories/usb-power-cable-with-long-range-wifi-receiver-streaming-st...
