4K streaming stick - Audio ONLY plays through TV speakers
I'm using the 4k streaming stick connected in the HDMI input of an Insignia Fire TV. All seems fine until I want the audio to play through anything but the TV's speakers....it doesn't happen. At first I thought there was an issue with the bluetooth connection of the external speaker and the Roku (because the TV itself played audio fine through the speaker). So instead I used a hardwire connection between the TV's Aux ouptut and the speaker. Again, the TV audio comes through just fine until I switch the input over to the Roku stick....and again...no audio.
I've tried changing the audio output on the Roku stick to just "Stereo" but to no effect. Any ideas?

Re: 4K streaming stick - Audio ONLY plays through TV speakers
Glad to see you here in the Roku Community, @PFNolan!
Thanks for sharing this here. I completely understand how you wanted to have audio on your External speakers when streaming from your Roku Streaming Stick 4K, and I would like to help.
Could you let us know if...
- Have you tried the same setup on a different TV to see if there are any changes? Also, does the loss of audio, when changing the output, happen on all channels or only on a specific channel?
Let's keep in touch. Let me know what you find out.
Best,

Re: 4K streaming stick - Audio ONLY plays through TV speakers
No, I don't have another TV to test this through. And I have no idea what you mean by other channels. There is the Roku attached to the HDMI input and there is the TV itself is connected to the internet (it's a Fire TV). We don't use a local TV signal at all, so no "channels" to speak of.

Re: 4K streaming stick - Audio ONLY plays through TV speakers
Thanks for the update, @PFNolan!
Could you please try the following workaround below?
- Press Home on your Roku remote, scroll down to Settings and select Audio > Digital output format. Instead of “Auto”, select “Custom” and choose the selection that matches the capabilities of your TV, AVR or soundbar. If the behavior continues, review more suggestions for determining why you do not hear audio.
- If you are using optical for audio, check that the input you are using on your AVR or soundbar has optical (or S/PDIF) assigned as the audio source. Refer to the manufacturer documentation to determine how to assign the audio source for an input on your AVR or soundbar.
