Typing game
For anyone running the 3.0 firmware, I've written a simple typing game based on a new design for an on-screen keyboard. I'd be very interested to hear your comments. Private channel code QUICKKEY.
Note that this game will NOT run on pre-3.0 firmware.

Re: Typing game
It took me a few tries to figure out what was going on. That's pretty slick! I think it would take some getting used to before I could type faster on it than on the regular keyboard screen, but I think once I got used to it I could type pretty quickly. One thing I might suggest is to have SHIFT only last for one character and to have a CAPS LOCK and maybe rename PUNCT to SYMBOLS.

Re: Typing game
I don't think this is much of a game. Perhaps it'd be better to handle it like a pinball machine - with auto-repeat for the keys. ie - hold down left on the remote to scroll through letters Z-A, and right on the remote to scroll through letters A-Z, and OK to choose the highlighted letter. I never use shifted/case on roku when entering anything, and symbols are a waste of time too unless you need to put in a WPA key. Numbers could be added to the beginning or end of the scrolling selection, and spacebar. Really that is the most efficient way I see of doing this - perhaps using the fastforward/rew to skip around by 10 symbols, ok to complete entry, and the back/instant replay/info button if available to delete.
Of course the ideal best solution would be to use a wireless IR or bluetooth keyboard. I can type on a keyboard, and enter text using the scrolling method mentioned above a lot quicker than 11.5 characters per minute.

Re: Typing game
I think to make this particular channel more of a game there should be a suggested phrase to type and some kind of overall statistics kept.

Great, very innovative. Not sure if one could type faster on this or not, but any attempt to innovate in this area is welcome. @destruk it doesn't have to be "much of a game" it is a proof of concept! Innovation should be encouraged, not smacked down.
I would love to see a pinball game style keyboard interface though!
