I fixed mine by changing the batteries in the remote.

My remote began to fail and then suddenly started to emit a low humming noise. I changed batteries and the remote doesn't work but still hums. System is 2 years old. Other room remote has started to hum also. What gives?

Roku remote making high pitched ringing sound and goes through batteries extremely fast.

I noticed a high piched sound when I paused a show using the remote.

So I hit play and then paused again and sound went away. 

Hmmmm, interesting ...........please post more as you figure something else because these forums are a good resourse to assist US in troubleshooting.
