Hi,
I have a Westinghouse Roku TV and the physical remote stopped working with the TV, so I started using the remote app. Now, the app will never connect to my TV, it won't even find it discoverable. I know the TV and the mobile phone have to be connected to the same internet connection, but I have no way of connecting my TV to the internet right now. Is there any way to fix this?
The infrared (IR) remotes for Roku TV's from other manufacturers than Roku (Westinghouse in this case) are made by the TV manufacturers, not Roku, so Roku does not supply direct replacements for them.
You can find replacement IR Roku TV remotes on Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and other retailers, at fairly low cost. All Roku TVs respond to the same set of IR control codes which makes Roku TV remotes from different manufacturers, including third party manufacturers, essentially interchangeable. Just be sure they explicitly say they are for Roku TVs, not Roku devices, since Roku TVs and Roku devices use different sets of control codes.
Or if you want to go the Cadillac route, both versions of Roku Voice Remotes control by WiFi instead of IR, are compatible with Roku TVs, and can (must, actually) be linked to them.
If your TV remote stopped working maybe you can get Roku to send you a replacement for it. The Roku remotes are widely known to have many issues. If it's a new TV you just got and the remote died then that is totally unacceptable and you definitely deserve to get a new remote for free. I don't know what's up with these Roku remotes but the issues are so bad they should be recalled and redesigned.
Having the same issue. Thinking I might have to buy a new remote.

I am having the same issues. The remote works fine (you can test your remote using the front camera of your smart phone. If you push buttons while taking a “selfie” you can see it light up). The TV itself will not communicate with the remote. There is no physical button to go to the settings option to connect to WiFi either. This is a disaster of a TV.
Anything blocking the TV remote sensor? Mine has a red light. Otherwise:
If it's an infrared (IR) remote there is not pairing button. If your IR remote does not work, you sure you have the right one? I have a Westinghouse ROKU TV got Westinghouse replacement IR remote at Amazon.
It works fine and under $10.
@Anonymous nothing is blocking it. I tried several orientation to check for this.
Yes, it should work automatically since it’s an IR remote. I believe there is nothing wrong with my remote, it’s the TV. You can test an IR remote using the front camera of a smart phone. If you hit buttons while viewing it through the front camera you will see it light up. I also purchased a new one from Amazon for the Westinghouse to be on the safe side, it’s made for Westinghouse specifically and works with my model, but the TV will not communicate with it.
The receiver on the TV flashes red while it’s on, I’m not sure if that indicates something. I’m looking into that now. If you have any ideas for me to try, send them my way. I have factory reset the TV and now it’s stuck on the selecting a language screen. You can’t use the button on the TV to toggle, you need to remote.
I don't know my Westinghouse ROKU TV came with a WIFI remote. I bought the infrared replacement so I could teach the commands to my universal infrared remote and it works perfectly. Sorry I have no clue what has happened to you.
@Anonymous i was able to use an Ethernet cable to connect it to my router and get the app to work on my phone. Still can’t get the remotes to work, but at least I can use my TV again.
OK, you have totally confused me. Only thing I can think is they sent you the wrong remote. As I said before my Westinghouse came with a WIFI (RF signal) type remote. Even if you had a proper IR remote you should have been able to use the arrow keys (up down left and right) to navigate on your TV to setup your TV's WIFI (network) settings. I just don't get it. Was the TV asking you to pair a remote? If so then you were sent the wrong remote. please explain in detail, thanks.
