As of yesterday, TV is not responsive to remote control asterisk button only (I have 4 RCs and the TV is no longer responsive to that asterisk button on any of them. Was there a software update to cause this issue, or what ? Is ROKU going to correct it ?

Thanks for adding your fix to community it work great on mine.
I did exactly this and it worked! Thanks! Roku should have posted this solution for a known issue but I'm glad somebody did.
Needed to upload a software update. Followed these instructions and This worked for me. You can check it under Settings > System > Software update > Check Now.

They have had the exact problem for over 3 years now and all yall say is change batteries like people aren’t saying it dosent work on remote or app how about you look into the problem about how the button dosent work like everyone is telling you
