I have tried all of the 'how to fix your Roku' remote via (below) and clearly this remote is not communicating with the streaming stick. Also tried fresh set of batteries, turning the streaming stick on/off as well as factory reset and the stick itself is operational but the remote will not connect with the streaming stick.
I would like move forward with the setup, but currently can't due to onscreen message (go.roku.com/remotehelp showing the stopwatch timer from five seconds) and then can use the Roku Android app to control the streaming stick vs a remote.
I would appreciate technical assistance on this so I can complete the setup.
Thank you in advance,
Fran
Roku Sticks come with WiFi remotes that you pair. IF remotes won't work. Whatever remote you are using cannot be the one that came in the package. Unless you bought it used or replaced the original broken remote and ordered the wrong replacement.

A simple Roku remote is an IR Infra-red remote which won't work at all on Roku Stick. The Stick has no IR sensor to accept IR commands. It only works with wifi Roku remotes.

Thanks for the response. It has been so long since I purchased that streaming stick that might have been the case.
Either way both of you helped me to understand the issue.
I do have a Roku 4k device and was able to successfully use the other remote so thank you for both responses to my question.
