Roku 2 will not scroll through apps

I have found this was a known issue in July, 2024 and that it was "addressed and closed"  I have followed all the recommended procedures including the nuclear option, (factory reset twice). After a factory reset, I am able to scroll for about a minute before it reverts to the pre-reset issue.

I also have a roku insignia tv.  My remote works fine on the tv.  I have tried the official roku app on an android and an apple phone.  All work on the tv.  None work on the Roku 2.

Of course I've tried fresh batteries, multiple restarts, uninstalling the "roku" app.  Nothing works.  Since all tv/remote combinations work, and no device/remote combination works, and this issue seems to have been sudden and not isolated it certainly seems it may have begun with a software update for the roku 2 if not other streaming devices as well.  Is there going to be a patch?

Re: Roku 2 will not scroll through apps

What specific model of Roku do you have? What version of OS do you have on the device?

Most Roku 2's are at least 10 years old or even older than that. With that being said, most are considered obsolete and no longer supported and can no longer get updates.  In a lot of instances with an old operating system and device, a number of apps will no longer function.

Re: Roku 2 will not scroll through apps

Hi, @Marchioly

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the Roku Community.

As suggested by @JWS9518, it is important for us to identify the specific Roku device model and the software version that your Roku 2 is currently using.

Additionally, we want to inform you that the Roku 2 is now classified as a Legacy Product. This means it has been discontinued and can no longer support newer versions of the Roku operating system.

Hope this information helps, and keep us posted on what you find out.

Thanks,
The Roku Community Team.

Re: Roku 2 will not scroll through apps

it is a roku2 2720x.  software version 11.0.0 build 4195-06
Yes it is about 10 years old.  I don't expect continuous software updates or support, but this new issue is not isolated to me, seemed to have happened to many people all at once around July 2024 (I dont think Ive used roku in nearly a year), and since I, as have others, have the same issue across different remote approaches and don't have the issue with the same devices on the tv, that indicates the issue was cause by an update which I no longer qualify for.  I would suggest a fair approach would be to roll back the update on affected devices, or provide a patch to fix the problem caused by an update before support was cancelled.

Re: Roku 2 will not scroll through apps

It is because the device is obsolete and no longer supported as the operating system is 3 versions behind and the apps that are on today's device will not work on that operating system on a device that old.  Roku is no longer actively supporting that model.

Unfortunately, I am afraid there isn't much that you are going to be able to do other than replace the device.

Re: Roku 2 will not scroll through apps

Thanks for the update, @Marchioly

The current version of Roku OS is 14.0, which has addressed and resolved many of the issues found in earlier versions. This update enhances overall performance and compatibility for most devices.

However, if you are encountering difficulties with your Roku 2, it is important to note that these issues are often the result of the device's limited compatibility with newer app updates. As app developers continue to improve their offerings, older devices like the Roku 2 may struggle to support the latest features and functionalities.

I hope for your understanding.

Thanks,
