Remote not working stuck on home screen

Jump to solution

Remote doesn't work, its all charged up so that's not problem. TV stuck on Roku home screen and won't respond to any buttons on remote. After 5 min. it goes to the Roku Screensaver City & Ocean & Buildings thingy. And then I'm stuck for good. I've unplugged everything. Every cable, cord, over and over.

Hi, @ScottR2

We are glad to have you here in the Roku Community.

We understand the issue you've shared here with us regarding the Roku remote not being able to respond to your Roku device, and we'd be pleased to assist. Kindly follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue regarding your remote.

Re-pair your voice remote to your streaming device

Put your streaming device in pairing mode:

  1. Remove the power cable from your streaming device
  2. Wait at least 5 seconds
  3. Re-connect the power cable
  4. Wait for your streaming device to power on, and the Home screen to appear on your TV screen
  5. Within 30 seconds of seeing the Home screen on your TV screen, put your voice remote into pairing mode

Put your voice remote in pairing mode:

  1. Press and hold the pairing button on your voice remote for 20 seconds. The status light should slowly flash green, stop, and then flash rapidly. When this happens, release the pairing button and your remote will restart.
  2. Press and hold the pairing button for 5 seconds, or until you see the status light begin to flash. If the light does not flash, charge your remote.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your streaming device.

Once your streaming device and remote are connected, the pairing dialog will appear on your TV screen.

Please keep us posted on how this works.

Best wishes,
Kash

We're happy to help you with your Roku remote. Please follow these steps so you can put your Roku device and voice remote in pairing mode:

  1. Remove the power cable from your Roku device.
  2. Wait at least 5 seconds.
  3. Re-connect the power cable.
  4. Wait for your streaming device to power up and the Home screen to appear on your TV screen.
  5. Put your voice remote into pairing mode within 30 seconds of seeing the Home screen on your TV.
  6. Ensure that your Roku remote is charged, or remove the batteries, then put it back in if it is not rechargeable.
  7. If your remote has a pairing button (found at the back of the remote), press and hold the pairing button for 5 seconds or until the status light begins to flash.
  8. If your remote does not have a pairing button, press and hold both the Home and Back buttons for 5 seconds or until the status light begins to flash.
  9. If the status light does not flash, try replacing the batteries or charging the remote.
  10. Wait 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your streaming device.

Hi @Geot,

Welcome to the Roku Community, and thanks for reaching out. We'd be more than happy to look into it.

Could you tell us what Roku device you are using right now? And how are you powering your device? Is it connected directly to a wall outlet or directly to a TV USB port?

With more detailed information, we'll be able to further investigate.

Regards,

Rey

I don’t see my response in here so I’ll resubmit. Roku express and it is plugged into the wall and fed to usb port in the tv. Have changed the battery. Tried reconnecting via the app. It recognizes the device but won’t connect. Can’t access isp without access to the device.

@Geot Plug your device into a wall outlet.  USB ports often do not provide enough power

Hi,

I've got simple RC AL1R remote. Stuck on home page not moving at all.

I've reached by email Roku company, they promised to get back yet.

For now I wonder what best-to order simple remote or replace whole device?
