Remote Pro 2: Buttons make clicking sound. Is this by design?

Jump to solution

I just bought a remote pro ver. 2, and there is a lot to like about it.  One thing I do not like is the fact that I hear a "click" whenever I push a button.  For example...  Scrolling 1 by 1 through You Tube videos.  There is a clicking sound every time I push the directional pad on the remote to advance to the next video and then again when I push the "OK" button to watch the video.  (It does not click if I hold the directional pad down to continuous scroll)  Is this how the new remotes behave or do I have a faulty remote?

Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community, @jockoe.

We appreciate you reaching out for support about your new Roku Voice Remote Pro 2nd edition. We'd be happy to provide further information about this.

It is completely normal to hear a sound that can be described as a light click or tap. This sound is produced as a result of the contact underneath being pushed, which is the mechanism that enables the device to function properly.

Feel free to let us know if you have further questions about this. We'd be happy to help.

Happy Streaming!
Best regards,
Carly

I haven't received my VR P ver 2 yet.  Is this a mechanical click from the remote itself, or something from the TV audio?

The new, Roku Voice Clicker Pro!

The remote itself seems to have click buttons unless perhaps it could be haptic feedback.  It's fine, more like a mild click that you hardly hear but more feel.

It is most definitely a click. Coming from the remote control itself.

I feel ya.  I hate the new "clicky" remotes that these companies have been making the last several years - they're the worst when you're trying to be quiet at night and just all around annoying (The fire stick remote is even worse).  I love the design of the older Roku Ultra voice remotes.

If you don't care about it being rechargeable or having a mute button (I actually HATE the mute button on the side, it gets pressed way too easily, and I actually have no use for it). The best remote I have is from my older Roku Ultra 4.  It's the RF voice remote that of course has the headphone jack, remote finder sound, etc.

What makes it special, and best in my opinion is how it just feels like a substantial remote.  Just slightly heavier with a smooth casing (these new ones feel so cheap).  AND NO ANNOYING BUTTON "CLICK"!

I actually just ordered a good looking used one off from eBay today, because I want to have another backup.  There's a few available if you look around, usually under 20$ with shipping.  It's a dated remote of course - the 4 buttons (that probably no one ever uses - I know I don't) are labeled for Netflix, Sling, Hulu, and CBS All Access (which pulls up Paramount app now).  There are also two A & B buttons vertically below the preset buttons (for gaming!?)

The model number of the remote (which is underneath the batteries) is RC-AL4 and the SKU is 3226000437.

If anyone knows of a source to find these EXACT remotes new, please let me know!

Hope this helps!

My remote makes clicks and beeps that are definitely coming from the speakers, not the remote itself.  Like the keyclick sounds that you can turn on or off on your phone, except that I can't find a way to turn these off.  Annoying!  Is there really no way to mute the clicks???
