Pinging is so so so **bleep** these days

Was one of the very first ROKU customers and hardly had a complaint.
Today? 10-15 of them.

Pinging - used to have Flight of the Valkyries that could be heard across nearly 3,500 sq feet. Today? Pinged a remote led than 3 feet away and nobody could hear it until dead silence. Why are all of the ping tunes so limp wristed?

Want more reasons why I'm dropping my 6 ROKUs? Ping me 🤣

100% in agreement. I used the same song on all of my remotes. Now they just weakly "Beep! even though settings says the remote is updating with one of the three remaining weak pings that you can't hear from 6" away.

If you listen closely it's actually playing, "Use Apple TV instead!"

So we're replacing all 6 of our Rokus one by one with Apple TV devices.

I have no clue what you're complaining about. Are you referring to the lost remote function that some Rokus have that can make the missing remote issue a sound? I've never found the sound to be that loud, but still easily locatable within the same room.

It's good to be in agreement with yourself!  When you're not, it can get confusing!  😀

However, if you're the first person to agree with yourself in 6 months, then either many aren't bothered, or as @atc98092 mentioned, aren't sure what you're talking about.

Banned but back. Because why not?

"Community Expert" and you don't know what a Roku remote (this forum and thread) ping is?

As Roku functionality has slipped over the years, this one went down hill too.

Not sure what your viewing setup is, but several of our rooms have many places to view from. Especially our theatre. If we are interrupted, the remote doesn't always make it back to the planned holding place. Hence the need to ping the remote.

Wonderful for you that you can hear the weak little "peep" Roku has downgraded to, but it's a common complaint now for many who went with Roku over other devices.

Yes, I said I knew about that. I just couldn't tell that was what you were referring to from your rant. That function only exists on my Ultra players, and since I don't misplace the remotes it's not a function I have used often. Mostly I've triggered it by mistake when handling the Roku itself. But it wasn't difficult to hear the alert. And if you're referring to the sound that the remote makes when the ping is activated, to my memory it's always been an an actual "ping" sound, never playing any music.

I did just try it on my Premiere (since that's the player nearest me at the moment) and as expected I heard no sound because that player doesn't support it. The alert did appear on-screen, but even with the remote at my ear (It's a basic voice remote) there was no sound.
