Streaming players appear in the list of Google Home automation starter devices and currently support "Turns on or off." Changing the on/off state does not, however, actually trigger the routine.
Is anyone able to use a streaming player as a Google Home automation starter?
Hi @TomDavis,
Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!
We'll be more than happy to answer your inquiry. Please be advised that you can use a streaming player like a Chromecast or a Google TV streamer as a Google Home automation starter. This means you can initiate a Google Home routine by interacting with the streaming device through voice commands on your TV using the Google Assistant; essentially, you can "Ok Google" on your TV to start a home automation sequence.
We hope this helps.
All the best,
John

The quoted post is not a solution. To use a device as a Google Home automation starter, the device name must appear in the list of starter devices and initiate an automation routine when the start condition is met. Roku streaming players do appear in the list of starter devices and include the trigger "Turns on or off." As implemented, the start condition actually applies to the connected TV, not the streaming player. But turning the connected TV on or off (using the Google Home app) will not start an automation routine.
What John describes is how to start an automation with a voice command using "When I say to Google Assistant," rather than with a device state change using "When a device does something."
