In what app would you do this? Your instructions are not complete.
This issue is NOT solved and has been happening way too long (years). It happens in Sling, Netflix and other apps, so it's not an app, it's the Roku. No one in my house (2 of us) use captions ever. But about twice a week it turns on for no apparent reason. And in 2 years Roku can't fix this and refuses to even acknowledge the problem. There's other media players out there, my be time to switch as Roku has been getting worse.
I would agree. I only use Sling, Plex, and Youtube. I am now in the habit of checking the status on Roku before I launch any app to try to narrow down what is happening and have not been able to trap it. I can understand when you are in an app that depending on what you start to view the app may display it with subtitles, but that in no way should change the setting in the Roku OS to be "always on", Roku needs to update their OS to prevent that from happening, or honor the setting the owner has setup in Roku and somehow deny the app from switching/displaying Subtitles.
So you have no idea, but found the need to answer....
I hope someone from Roku reads these...
How is this issue not a P0 for the dev guys??? If CC is turned on by another app randomly or by a Roku bug (most likely based on what I see) then your system has an issues that needs to be addressed. Put some hooks in to stop apps from changing this or fix for your software. It is very annoying to have to turn CC off all the time.
I love the Roku interface, but an annoying bug like this makes the system a POS.......
Hello @toddtho00
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Please provide us with the following information for further investigation:
With more information, we will be able to assist you further.
All the best,
Kariza
This happens on two Roku devices I have
1 – ONN Roku TV G814x, Model 100012588, SN X01200WCD2XX, Software version 10.5.2 build 4138-CT, Device ID SODM61ACD2XX – I use this device the most
2 – Model 3820X – Streaming Stick 4k, SN X01700APXNVW Software version 10.5.1 build 4066-CU, Device ID SO8Y419PXNVW – I first noticed this issue on this device and I stopped using it for a while – I have reset this device and will test on it.
This happens on the following channels (may happen on more, these are the ones I know it has happened):
Sling version 8.24 build 2087
Tubi version 2.17 build 1
Disney+ version 1.20 build 2022040600
Hulu version 6.59 build 0
Peacock version 3.4 build 10
Paramount version 7.1 build 20220315
I don’t do anything to make this happen. I will turn the TV on, go into a channel and often CC is turned on. It has gotten to the point where I will check in setting if CC is on before I go into a channel. I always set it to “on mute” with the ONN TV and it will sometimes be on a different setting the next time I check (either on or off).
To Kariza, Please review the thread from back in late Feb. and early March 2021 when multiple thread contributors submitted extensive input, including me. I eventually cured this problem by uninstalling CBSN rebooting reinstalling blah blah. Did not have problem for 14 months but it’s resurfacing now. However, CBSN, PBS, AXS, are not automatically coming on when you open the app now, as they were then for me. Have not yet been able to isolate it personally.
