Roku Ultra 2024 4850X - Wants to 'Downgrade' my Firmware

Jump to solution

How is 14.0.4 build 12222 later/newer than 14.0.4 build 12900 (which is what my 4850X has had from the initial installation? That seems counterintuitive, as 12900 is clearly a larger number than 12222... Mine is showing this "upgrade" is available for download, but it sure appears to be a "downgrade". Not sure I want to take a chance "upgrading" to a lower version number...  So, why should I?

Also - why isn't the Roku Ultra 4850 available for selection from "Associated Products" when I post?  Had to select "Roku Ultra (4800 series) which isn't exactly accurate going forward...

Thanks, and have a great day!

I appreciate you forwarding my concern to the 'Roku appropriate team' about the Roku Ultra 4850x version not being available in the Associated Products listing.

Your response about firmware version 14.0.4 build 12222 being newer than version 14.0.4 build 12900 felt a bit 'canned' and didn't really address my concerns at all as to why a lower build number of the same version number would be considered an 'upgrade' instead of a 'downgrade'.  Does this mean that build 12900 was released with issues that need to be resolved in a later build, and the only solution to prevent those (unknown) issues is to 'roll back' or 'downgrade' to a previous build?  If so, that would certainly be understandable.  I will probably do so despite my reservations, as the process is likely to happen eventually anyway - without any intervention on my part. However, it would be nice to get an official response that clarifies this apparent anomaly in the normal upgrade process, where larger build numbers are introduced to replace smaller ones.

Thanks again.

Hi @HawkInOz,

Thanks for the response!

Although it seems counterintuitive, 14.0.4.12222 is a newer version than 14.0.4.12900 based on the branches from which they were built.

Thank you for your understanding.
