Hi
I've just gone through this entire thread hoping for an answer, no luck.
I just bought a Roku Ultra LT for one reason only and that's to cast family home videos from my Apple devices to TV. According to the quick research I did Roku was now supporting Airplay.
I have the exact same problem as others have described here. But it seems there's no solution. I guess I'll have to throw away this device because it doesn't perform the one thing I bought it for.
Very frustrating!
Thanks for the post.
Can you please specify the issue you are experiencing? What are you seeing on screen? What are the exact steps to reproduce the issue? What external device are you using to Airplay to the Roku device?
With more detailed information, we will be able to assist you further.
Thanks,
Danny
Same problem. Why hasn't Roku figured this out yet?
@RokuDanny-R @Dude, there are a bunch of people describing the same issue some with details and you come once every six months to ask to describe it? Kind of frustrating that Roku claims AirPlay as a feature but it doesn’t work.
My particular issue is while streaming a video from a website in my iPhone 12 Pro, there is an icon to cast the video via AirPlay. When selecting the device, Roku TV in my case. The iPhone shows as if the video is being played on the TV but the TV only shows an AirPlay settings screen.
no one here has been able to figure out how to make this work.
@TheRealAlexDC AirPlay works great on all 3 of my TCL Roku TVs with my iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 15.4 and AirPlay 2.0. Be sure you follow these instructions. Be sure that fast start is enabled on your TV
@Ello2022 thanks, I have read that entire article and it works for some but not for all.
For example: I am able to AirPlay content from YouTube’s app, photos and videos from the iOS photo app, and stream live video from ustvgo.com
But if I try to stream videos from wcostream.com it will not work. I am not sure if is a permission or a setting on the iOS device, but AirPlay does work, just not with the videos I want to cast to my Roku TV TCL 55R635.
What could be preventing it? The website or apple? That’s the $50k question.
@TheRealAlexDC So your trying to use AirPlay to play movies and content from a generic anime website and wondering why if doesn’t work? Also USTVGO is not a legal website and requires a VPN. So the problem isn’t your iPhone, AirPlay or your Roku TV. It’s the VPN you are using in the illegal website you’re using. Guess that sums it up. In case you didn’t know you can watch plenty of free TV on Roku without illegally trying to stream it. The Roku Channel, PlutoTV, Tubi and Crackle are all free

So while I agree it may not be legal, it doesn’t change the fact that some websites can’t be used on airplay. I am not using a vpn. And yes I am aware of all the free content but in this particular case, I wanted to watch Attack on Titan (dubbed) and the only place I found that does it is that website I mentioned.
yes this answers the question but it sucks that it can’t be done.
GUYS. After reading this whole thread, I think I’ve isolated the issue. Airplaying videos from safari to a Roku tv (which I think qualifies as Android) does not work. I’ve been battling this issue for ages with my TCL Roku tv. Same as everyone else: mirroring my screen works, but airplaying videos does not. I finally downloaded Chrome from the app store, and what do you know: every bootleg stream imaginable is successfully airplaying to my tv. Hope this helps?
RokuOS is Linux-based as is Android/Android TV.
Regardless, posting that Chrome works when Safari doesnt is excellent feedback and provides an easy solution/workaround. Might also be worthwhile to test FireFox as well and post those results.
