ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Can't disable ROKU wifi signal Ultimation No one was "acting like" there are no "Secret Menus" in RokuOS, they were simply stating the menus have changed & there is no option to disable WiFi, and that Roku discourages/deletes references to accessing them (and I've yet to see a single user defend such a practice, because it's obviously anti-user and just dumb). I think you are misleading yourself/using flawed WiFi/RF detection tools if you think the WiFi "auto-disables" after a period of time when using wired connectivity. Additionally, even if the WiFi were somehow disabled there is still other RF activity including BT (BlueTooth) within the device because the radio(s) within the chipsets/SoC would still be active, and even if those were disabled there would still be spurious/low-level RF/EMF due to the electrical activity within the device. Its reasonable to want to disable WiFi or BT (specific wireless functions or protocols) though it would disable much of a device's functionality, and suggestions/feedback to do so have repeatedly been made: https://community.roku.com/t5/Suggest-a-Feature/bd-p/Wishlist Re: Browser availabilty via an app on Roku Savedon911 AvsGunnar Actually, Roku does install/provide a browser for all of their supported products: Roku Browser (current version 84.10.13) is a hidden middleware app (first provided last year) based on/off Chromium that allows Roku-provided-app/UX/UI experiences/functionality that would otherwise not be possible. Check Third Party Licenses: Settings/System/Third party licenses second paragraph https://go.roku.com/oss/chromium-84-10-13 (currently not working, violates open source license provisions) Ironically, when first offered this (very large) app caused memory/resource instability issues (due to poor memory management code/handling in RokuOS itself) for Small Memory (512MB) models, forcing Roku to withdraw/remove it for a time until they (somewhat) fixed the OS memory management issues. Regardless a browser does exist, and clearly is viable at this point resource-wise on all supported models, but Roku has decided against making its full functionality available to customers via the UI (go figure). You can always send feedback to Roku asking/demanding that they provide a customer facing UI/access: https://community.roku.com/t5/Suggest-a-Feature/bd-p/Wishlist Re: YouTube and YouTubeTV 720p picture quality on Roku Ultra (2018 & 19) devices edtv411 You could try reinstalling the YTTV app, but it wont impact this issue at all. if the Auto (default) setting for 720p/1080p/4K channels results in macroblocking/low resolution, the solution is always to manually select 720p/1080p/4K (once for each resolution) - this is the recommended configuration regardless. "Auto" relies on stepping/ramping from very low resolutions to begin coupled with network conditions to determine the resolution. However, even with manual resolution selection, this may occasionally need to be re-done, due to app updates, firmware updates, changed network configuration, or changed network conditions (e.g. dropped packets/low bandwidth). Make sure your network conditions are reliable (e.g. if using WiFi, try using 5Ghz instead of 2.4Ghz, or switch channels) to prevent/minimize this from occurring, and be prepared to occasionally manually configure each resolution. Re: Hooking Up Roku 2 to VGA Projector You're welcome again, and the information is hard to find because Disney+ isnt specific enough and Roku doesn't have a dedicated support article on it and didn't "sticky" that thread/post. The good news about getting an updated model is that they are relatively cheap ($20-80), so it doesn't "break the bank" to do so. Re: Paramount Plus flickers while finding a show Dankychado Disable framerate matching: Settings/System/Advanced system settings/Advanced display settings/Auto-adjust display refresh rate = Off Re: Hooking Up Roku 2 to VGA Projector Malloryj35 You're welcome. Unfortunately the 3000 isnt a supported model for Disney+, and their "Roku Supported Models" article isn't specific enough: https://help.disneyplus.com/csp?id=csp_article_content&sys_kb_id=fec35d33db4f8d18a3d861bb13961921 https://community.roku.com/t5/Channel-Issues-Questions/The-Disney-Plus-Channel-is-here/m-p/519901/highlight/true#M21657 "The following Roku device models are not supported by the Disney Plus channel: 2400, 3000, 3050, 3100, 2450, 2500, 3400, 3420" You'll need to get a newer Roku if you want Disney+ support - The Express 4K+ (3941), Streaming Stick 4K/4K+ (3820/3821), Ultra LT (4801), or Ultra (4800/4802) should suit your needs. If you're willing to wait a little longer, the forthcoming Express (3960) should also work, though it lacks a power supply and only comes with simple IR-only remote; however, do NOT get ANY current Express or SE or HD model (393x) as they are older SoCs (hardware chipset) with 2.4Ghz-only WiFi support (and a simple IR-only remote). Re: Hooking Up Roku 2 to VGA Projector Malloryj35 You didnt mention your model # or firmware version: Settings/System/About Try: 1) Manually configure display: Settings/Display type = 720p or 1080p (do NOT use "Auto-detect") If that still doesnt work: 1) Using remote: Home 5x, Down, Left, Up 3x, Disable automatic recovery Re: Apple TV+ subscription not working on Roku devices rslgo Roku didnt add anything to the app - Apple entirely develops, codes, and publishes the app to the Roku Channelstore. Roku DOES occasionally make trial/subscription deals with different streaming services, but again that's handled by the streaming service (and its app and subscription processes). You can always try the process I previously posted to see if that provides any resolution for you. Otherwise, if you're having trouble with your Apple subscription and the Apple TV app, you need to direct your customer service/technical support efforts to Apple CS. Re: Apple TV+ subscription not working on Roku devices msorce48 You mentioned deleting/reinstalling the ATV app, but you may not have done it correctly - you must RESTART the Roku before reinstalling. Try this specific order: 1) Log out of the ATV app on all devices. 2) Delete ATV app. 3) RESTART Roku device (both/all devices in your case). 4) Reinstall the ATV app. Otherwise, this is entirely an Apple support issue: Apple develops, codes, and publishes the ATV app on the Roku (and other) platform, so you'll need to press them about this account/subscription/Roku app issue. Re: Sound drops when changing stations or apps LotionBasket I highly recommend (and use myself) a multi-platform streaming strategy using at least 3 different platforms (e.g. Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, etc) and devices can be had from $20-150, depending on your needs/wants. As for the $35-50 GCCWGTV: its a capable device, though firmware updates are pretty rare and it does have its own peculiar issues and app/system limitations (e.g. DV playback is currently broken for HBO Max, and it currently has no framerate matching functionality, though that may change soon with and Android TV OS12 update). You may also consider the $20 O4KSB (ONN (Walmart) 4K Streaming Box) - its a very capable cheap Android TV device with 4K/HDR support and a Dolby decoder for connection to legacy DD-only (no DD+ support) AVRs/SBs. Ultimately you dont "switch" in any permanent way - you simply use the device that has the app with the best (or currently working) experience/AV quality - and you'll likely switch frequently, considering that firmware/app updates frequently break /change something in a way you dont like/prefer on one platform, while remaining functional/better on another platform.
