Onn Roku TV goes black when viewing video on PC.

Jump to solution

When I open up something like a YouTube video on my PC, or even just a preview video on the steam store or something, my TV will go black, and then the image will come back but at a worse resolution. The only way I can revert this is to close out whatever is playing the video and go to Microsoft Edge where the TV will go black again and the original high resolution will return. It’s extremely annoying and I’d like to know if there’s a fix for this. I have an ONN Roku 50” TV. My PC’s drivers, everything is all up to date. I have a feeling this is a TV issue and not a PC issue.

Welcome to the Roku Community, @Naphor0500!

Thanks for letting us know about this concern that you have with the Roku TV. We're pleased to help.

A Roku TV going black when viewing on a computer is usually due to a problem with the connection between the computer and the TV, most likely related to the HDMI cable, the input source selection on the TV, or a faulty connection on either end; it could also be caused by issues with the computer's display settings.

We hope this helps!

Best regards,
John

I’ve tried multiple HDMI outputs and wires, all with the same results. I’ve also looked up this issue in the past, and it seems this is an issue with this specific TV. So I really don’t think it’s a computer issue. I had hoped there was a setting I was missing but I can’t seem to find any. My computer didn’t even detect my TV had HDR until I turned the HDMI setting to standard, so I was hoping for a solution similar to that.
