Streaming stick 4k not working

Jump to solution

We have a Roku streaming stick 4k that's worked fine for about a year now. Yesterday we unplugged while dusting behind the TV and it's not turning on anymore. We've unplugged the power, moved it to different wall outlets, tried different HDMI inputs, tested the HDMI inputs with other devices, and yesterday for a bit it did turn on after a hard reset, but then the video on the apps wouldn't play, just the audio would.

Today it won't turn on at all and the white light is flashing. The TV is on the right input and on, the remote light turns green when we hit power, but nothing happens. How do we fix this?

Hi, @Pleasehelp2

Greetings, and welcome to the Roku Community.

Thanks for letting us know about the issue you have encountered with your Roku Streaming Stick 4K that no longer powers on, and you've come to the right place for help.

Most Roku streaming players have a light on the front of the unit. Under normal operation this light is either off or white, and may flash when you press buttons on your remote control. However, it will FLASH RED when your device has insufficient power.

Follow the instructions below to address this issue:

  1. Verify that you are using the USB cable that came with your Roku streaming player
    • If you are using any USB cable other the one that came with your streaming player, replace it with the one that came with your player.
  2. Try a different USB Port
    • Some USB ports have different power characteristics. Connecting your streaming player to a different USB port on your TV may resolve the issue.
  3. Connect power to power-outlet
    • Using the included USB cable and USB power adaptor (if included), connect your streaming player to a working power outlet in the wall.
    • Connecting to a power outlet in the wall has the additional advantage that your Roku streaming player will not need to power-up every time you turn on your TV. This means your player will be up and running faster than it would connected to a TV.
  • Note: We recommend using the provided USB power adaptor, if one was included with your Roku streaming player. We cannot guarantee that using an alternate non-Roku USB power adaptor will work reliably.

Additionally, you can visit this Roku support article link on What to do if your Roku streaming player will not power on.

We hope this information helps, and keep us posted in this thread. We're here to continue assisting you.

Best wishes,
Kash

Hi, @killerbees76767

Greetings, and welcome to the Roku Community.

I appreciate you for sharing the troubles you have encountered, and confirming that pressing the reset button on the Roku device has fixed the issue.

The tiny button on Roku devices is a reset button where pressing and holding it for 20 seconds will initiate a factory reset. This erases most of the data from your Roku device and restores it to a factory default configuration.

On the other hand, a simple unplug and replug is best advised to troubleshoot most issues you encounter with your Roku device.

If you have further clarifications or questions, feel free to reach out to us.

Thanks,
The Roku Community Team.
