Re: Stop the spanish ads on english language chosen content!!!!

Hi Community users,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Roku Community!

We can understand your concern about the Spanish ads that you are seeing on the Roku device. We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We understand that the ads displayed may not always meet everyone's preferences or expectations. However, we make efforts to ensure that offensive images and content that may be disagreeable to Roku users are avoided.

We'd be more than willing to further review this commercial concern you've mentioned. May we know where you are seeing the Spanish ads? Is it from a specific channel or inside The Roku Channel? Since when have you been facing this issue? If possible, kindly provide us with the name of the commercial and give us further information about it so we can assess your concern better.

We look forward to hearing from you and looking closely into this issue.

All the best,

Re: Stop the spanish ads on english language chosen content!!!!

You know the ads you are airing. You don’t need us to tell you what they are. We have complained and you do not care. You already sold us your device and added to your bottom line. You are not the only streaming service to choose from. I will be switching to another and strongly encourage everyone offended by your decision to do the same. If you think all the illegals will buy your device then you are delusional. They need a job first. I’m done with you !

Re: Spanish Commercials on Roku

The racism and complete lack of historical intelligence in this thread is beyond disgusting. Why is this being tolerated by the moderators?

People should not be forced to "get used to it" That is the "entitlement" mentality and is just plain wrong and insulting!

ROKU is just too lazy. ROKU can easily develop software that can filter Spanish language content out for those users who have selected English as the preferred language. Also NO! Other platforms do NOT randomly provide Spanish language content. The other platforms know how to filter content correctly. So PLEASE ROKU, write your software to filter out Spanish language content.

Re: Stop the spanish ads on english language chosen content!!!!

ROKU, I understand "You would be more than willing to further review this commercial concern"

BUT SERIOUSLY? You actually don't even know where these Ads are running? That is pathetic.

How does your Advertising Dept or your Advertisers track where and how effective your advertising is. I  believe your Advertising Dept KNOWS these statistics.

So do NOT ask your customers to do your homework for you!!! Wow, how naïve can you be?

Talk to your own Departments and figure it out NOW!!!

Re: Spanish Commercials on Roku

Why is what being ‘tolerated by the moderators’?

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of speech, which is a fundamental right that is essential to a democratic society. This amendment prohibits Congress from making laws that abridge the freedom of speech, which includes the right to express one’s opinions, beliefs, and ideas without fear of government interference or punishment.

So then what of hate speech? It’s defined as any form of expression through which speakers intend to vilify, humiliate, or incite hatred against a group or a class of persons on the basis of race (in this case). This hasn’t been done here at all. The only thing I’ve read are opinions & comments to which others are entitled.

Yet even hate speech is protected by the First Amendment in the United States, as decided in R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul, (1992) in which the Supreme Court ruled that hate speech is permissible, except in the case of imminent violence.

Hate crimes are overt acts that can include acts of violence against persons or property, violation or deprivation of civil rights, certain "true threats," or acts of intimidation, or conspiracy to commit these crimes. None of this is occurring here.

Your comments don’t even apply to anything that’s been said. If they serve any purpose at all, it seems they exist to start an argument or at the least they are an attempt to show some perceived ethical or moral superiority. Others have simply commented that they’d prefer to not have foreign language commercials on channels that are English speaking. Even if anyone stated that they feel that immigrants should be required to learn English as a prerequisite to living in the US, they’ve only exercised their constitutional right to free speech.

To reiterate, freedom of opinion & expression are cornerstones of human rights & pillars of free & democratic societies. I’m sure that’s why the moderators haven’t involved themselves as no issues exist here to moderate.

Personally I have no real opinion about any of this since it’s a non-issue. The only thing that strikes me is that you seem to enjoy some perceived moral superiority & would, by all appearances seem to really enjoy it if someone would argue with you. Yet there’s no argument here to be had.

As I said before, it’s difficult even from reading your signature not to feel that you’re not the most pleasant person since you give strong vibes that you’re ready for an argument. “Not here to socialize”. Really? You have taken apart posts paragraph by paragraph. Your comments on them seem to serve no purpose other than to illicit a response.

“Seriously? Freedom of choice? Controlled? Paranoid much? And who's really spreading the hatred here? Try looking in the mirror. Smh”

“…it would be funny if it weren't so disgusting.”

“If you want respect show some yourself.”

Well, if any of just the few sentences I’ve quoted of yours above are not so-called fighting words, I don’t know what is. Just the same way that you’ve repeatedly advised others to simply utilize the ‘mute’ button, maybe if this topic is so disgusting to you, you shouldn’t continue responding & making certain you get the last word. It’s as if you feel you’ve ‘won the Internet’. There are a plethora of sites where you can find willing opponents with which to argue, especially these days. Yet this one would seem to truly be a site to talk about Roku, ask Roku-related questions & seek appropriate solutions.

It doesn’t seem as you say that you’re “here to help & get help” as “that’s what real life is”. It undoubtedly seems that you’re here to argue.

To repeat something I once read: If you don’t like how I speak, there’s a mute button. Feel free to use it. Or, you could not jump to conclusions and see what I’m really all about over time. 😎😊
