Roku not correctly outputting 4k on apple tv app

I have been going nuts for over a year trying to figure out why the apple tv app hasn’t been consistent in outputting 4k hdr on the apple tv app. Some things work, others don’t.

On a flippin whim I decided to try an apple tv+ movie that I have watched in 4k hdr before after I finally got it to work and wouldn’t you know it, the movie played in hd hdr like the others but reinstalling the app fixed the apple tv+ movie but not the movies in my library!

So does anyone have any advice on how to fix this weird issue? Cause ima bout ready to just buy an apple tv to replace all the rokus we have and I’d rather wait and hope for new ones.

Re: Roku not correctly outputting 4k on apple tv app

Welcome and thank you for posting here in the Roku Community, @honelbo1!

Thanks for letting us know about the issues you've encountered with the display rate on the Apple TV app on your Roku during playback. We'd be happy to provide further information about this.

Since you are referring to specific content within the Apple TV app, it would be best to contact their Support team directly for further assistance. Roku does not manage content within a specific app.

We would recommend coordinating this with the channel provider as they manage and maintain their app on the Roku streaming platform independently. You may reach them here: Apple TV Support

We hope you find this information helpful.

Warm regards,
Carly

Re: Roku not correctly outputting 4k on apple tv app

Unfortunately I've heard the same problems with users on other platforms as well. It seems Apple is mostly concerned with ensuring their own platform works perfectly, and the Roku and Android based platforms get what's left over. Not unlike Google having YouTube work better on a Chromecast than on Roku devices.
