Live TV Channel Guide issue on Roku

Jump to solution

Does anyone at Roku ever use these apps and the guide. Do they actually think this is a great user experience?

It defaults to all channels. Even when you press left, after you're watching something, it just goes back to all channels. Everything is just randomly ordered and grouped together and makes no sense whatsoever. I don't understand why it can't default to favorites and why it can't go back to favorites when you click left. It's what everybody would want, yet Roku doesn't think so.

Re: Why is the guide so awful?

Hi, @StrokerAce

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the Roku Community.

To ensure that we understand your concern, you are inquiring about the filtering options with the Live TV Channel Guide on Roku. You can filter the Live TV Channel Guide to display all channels (minus any hidden channels), an automatically generated list of recently watched channels, or your favorite channels. When the channel guide is filtered, only the channels that are part of the filtered view appear. Use the following steps to filter the channel guide.

  1. Open the Channel options menu
  2. Select Filter
  3. Choose All channels, Recents, or Favorites

For more information, you can visit How to set up a favorites channel list with Roku's Live TV Channel Guide

We hope you find this helpful.

Best wishes,
Kash

Hi, @sambou.

Greetings from the Roku Community.

We understand how frustrating it is to not see your favorite shows when streaming via Live TV. No worries! We'd love to help you set up your favorite channels.

To set a channel as a favorite, open the Channel options menu and select Favorite channel. Repeat this for each channel you want to favorite, or use the following steps to favorite multiple channels at once.

  1. Open the Channel options menu
  2. Select Manage channels
  3. Select Favorite channels
  4. Press OK to check the box next to any channel you wish to favorite

Tip: As you move down the list, pause for a moment and your Roku device will switch to the channel for a quick preview.

We also suggest filtering the channels you want to stream. When the channel guide is filtered, only the channels that are part of the filtered view appear. Use the following steps to filter the channel guide.

  1. Open the Channel options menu
  2. Select Filter
  3. Choose All channels, Recents, or Favorites

For more details about this and to help you learn more about accessing the Live TV Channel Guide, you may visit this support article: How to set up a favorites channel list with Roku's Live TV Channel Guide

Keep us posted if you are still unable to setup your preferred and favorite Live TV channels.

Best regards,
Carly

What guide are you talking about? Is it in The Roku Channel, or a Roku TV? If not, then it is that services issue, not Roku.

The filter option does not show up on the "Channel Option Menu" as you stated! Looks like Roku IT did some updates and removed that option.

Re: Live TV Channel Guide issue on Roku

The actual use of the favorites went away about a year ago. I started writing and complaining to them I think in February of this year. Do you have to email because you're not actually allowed to talk to a person and if you did manage to get your way to a person, they won't do anything but have you factory reset your TV. Same deal defaults back to all channels. They didn't have any answers. All you get are emails. So many people have complained about this and yet they've done nothing. I did find something in the settings were you can change it from Roku is suggested order to numerical. I also noticed that my TV channels had changed the order they were in. The latest thing pissing me off is that if I use my channel Guide, now it shows a row up top of big on now TV show suggestions and I have to arrow down back to the TV guide to even use that. I found nothing to turn it off either. You are not alone. Roku doesn't care.

Your suggestions about how to set up favorites is a complete waste of time. There's no point in using favorites if it defaults back to all channels every time you go back into the TV guide. You should be able to set it up on favorites and have it stay on favorites until you have personally changed the category and not your stupid Roku TV. While I'm at it, get rid of all the other categories and just have it be all channels and favorites.
