I have HBO/MAX subscription thru my Xfinity service.
I suddenly find that if I want to Access HBO via my ROKU I have to subscribe thru ROKU, and can no longer use my Xfinity subscription. Is that Correct?

Are you attempting to access HBO Max through The Roku Channel, or through the HBO's own HBO Max channel app? You should be able to log into the HBO Max app using your Xfinity credentials.
I have HBO Max via my cell phone plan. I can access it with no issue on both my Roku and Android devices. Like @makaiguy mentioned, you have to use the dedicated HBO Max channel, and not try to access it through The Roku Channel.
