I’m currently trying to watch a series in which some of the speaking is in a foreign language. It’s translated , however a caption saying “Speaking Catalan” ( the foreign language) is placed over the translation so it can’t be read. Any ideas how to fix this?

What channel/app are you watching this on? It might be something that only the channel provider can resolve.

Try adjusting the subtitle settings in your video player to change the position or background of the captions. If that's not possible, consider using a different media player or finding another subtitle file without overlapping text.
