Any plans to add ABC iView (Aus)?

Jump to solution

Like many Aussies, I'm having to find a new streaming solution with the impending TelstraTV bricking. I am hoping to stick with Roku but there's one thing that's a dealbreaker right and that's lack of ABC iView. As a parent of two young kids, having access to Bluey on demand is simply critical. Freeview doesn't cut it.

Maybe this isn't a priority as all other regions need Disney+ to get Bluey, but here ABC iView is the only way and it's basically a mandatory app that every provider but Roku supports. So are there any plans to get ABC iView working on a non-TelstraTV Roku setup? Please and thanks.

Welcome to the Roku Community, @Alopex!

Thank you for your interest in adding the ABC iView app to your Roku device in your current location. We'd be happy to provide further information.

Currently, Roku doesn't offer this app on the Australia Channel Store. However, you may directly email the channel provider, letting them know you'd like this app available on the Roku streaming platform, as they will be the ones who will provide their app on the platform independently.

You may reach them here: ABC iview Support

We hope you find this information helpful.

Warm regards,
Carly

Hi, @mickydazzler

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the Roku Community.

We appreciate your inquiry about the availability of the ABC iView, 10 Play, and SBS on Demand on Roku devices in Australia.

Apps on the Roku platform are developed by channel providers. You may reach them and inquire further about the availability of their app on Roku.

We hope for your understanding in this matter.

Best wishes,
Kash

Hi I am having the same problem with iView being unavailable on Roku.

Carly responded that "you may directly email the channel provider, letting them know you'd like this app available on the Roku streaming platform, as they will be the ones who will provide their app on the platform independently".

The meaning of this answer is unclear.  Can you please expand on what this answer means?

How will emailing ABC get the app onto my Roku device?  Is there some way to install apps onto the Roku device that are not available on the Roku Streaming Store?  What is the install procedure?  Can I install apps from an installation file on a USB stick?  Or alternatively, can I install a web browser on the Roku device and then download/install iView from the internet?

What does your answer mean?  Please explain further.

Roku is a platform provider. ABC iView is a content provider. Think of Roku as an operating system. For iView to run on Roku then the ABC has to provide them with the necessary hooks to enable it to run. Bit like getting an Microsoft product to run on an apple device. They both have to know about each other.  By sending an email to ABC iView,  you are letting them know that you want their content. They have to send the connection details or whatever to Roku so it can be made available in the Roku Store. Same procedure as Samsung Store, Google Play etc etc.

Welcome to the Roku Community, @JamesDaChampion!

Thanks for getting in touch. We'd be more than happy to provide further information about this channel's availability.

Since the ABC iView app is currently not being offered in Australia via the Roku streaming platform, it is highly recommended that you contact their Support team directly and let them know you'd like their app on the Roku streaming platform.

Most standalone apps inside the Roku streaming platform are being managed and maintained by the channel providers themselves and this includes the ABC iView app.

Let us know if you need further clarification. We'd love to help you further.

Best regards,
Carly

Adding Apps not in Roku Channel Library

Jump to solution

Hi, I'm resident in Australia and I've recently purchased a Roku streaming player. I chose Roku because I've been using one for several  years with Telstra TV which has now been shut down,  leaving my old locked to Telstra Roku Box useless. (Booooooooo!)

My question is this how do I download my two favourite Apps (ABC iView and SBS OnDemand) to my Roku library. They don't appear to be available in the Roku channel library or at least they don't come up in a search and I don't want to manually search through e 1000+ options. I've search all the FAQ and Community Boards and also the Roku website without finding any useful info.

I have the Australian Free to air App rom the Roku library but this only allows live viewing of ABC and SBS but doesn't give me access to the old programs.

Is there a way of loading apps from the web into Rokus library.

Any help greatly appreciated!

This to me seems to be a cop out. May I ask, if ABC iview, 10 play and SBS on demand were available on the Telstra/Roku set top box, are they not available on the Roku TV's and Roku streamers, in OZ. Surely Roku can do something about this as they already have access to the apps as they were available on the Telstra. Or, is it that Roku just not interested in supporting Australian consumers? Seems so..

So now you take away 7+ from the library, and you say it is the local networks fault, bull**bleep**! Thanks for you support in Australia Roku, same as saying thanks fo nothing..

Wasted $200 on a Set top box that is only half useful, bad taste left...
