Roku Smart device recording went off

Jump to solution

Has anyone noticed that their Roku Smart Home Device red light is on, as if its recording but you have the camera off in the app. You have no special rules in place. And every time you notice it or speak to it, it immediately turns off! I have yet to turn it on since and have it facing a wall, but can hear a click and see the red ball of light reflecting on the wall whenever it does. So freaking scary. These are not supposed to be hackable and I feel otherwise!!!

My previous reply agreeing that I was experiencing the same issue was deleted, so making another attempt. I had this same issue where the camera was turned off in the app and no rules were in place. I noticed a light on (red not blue) at night especially. I found this post because I wanted to see if there was an explanation for it. The next time I noticed the light on, I screenshot the app indicating camera was off, then recorded the light on the device. As soon as I did that, the camera made a click sound and the red light went off. After I stopped filming it clicked again and the red light was on again. This happened twice. It was too creepy! For now I've disconnected the camera. Hopefully they don't delete this post too. Is anyone else witnessing this and can Roku explain?

Hi @Newguy100,

We understand that you are having an issue with the status light of your Roku Camera. No worries; we are more than happy to help you provide more information about this.

Before we proceed, we would like to know if the status light is flashing or solid.

Please be advised that if you see a solid red light on the camera after it is set up, it indicates that someone is currently viewing the live stream or the recording. On the other hand, if you notice a red flashing light, it means that the siren is being used. If you see the camera's red status light on, even when no one is watching the live stream, it's not recording, and the siren isn't being used, please let us know.

For reference, you can check out this article to learn more about the status of the light on your Roku Smart Home device.

Please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

Regards,

Riamie

Hi Riamie, Thank you so much for your reply. I read the article and your guidance. Yes, I am saying that when no one is watching the livestream, the siren is not in use, it's not recording, and my app has the camera turned  to off, there is a solid red light that appears. This is typically at night and you can hear the audible "click" sound when it turns on. If you look at it, say something to it, or take a picture of it happening, it suddenly clicks off....Which makes me feel like someone is watching that should not be. What the first poster descibed is same thing happening to me.

Re: Roku Smart device recording went off

Hello, I have also experienced the same issue on August 24, 2024. My cameras while off-line began live streaming or recording. I was even able to capture a video of one of my cameras doing this while showing me refreshing the app. The cameras were off-line.I have contacted Roku about this issue. So far with little to no information back.

I as well contacted my ISP to check my network for malicious activity.Myself, they also did not see any malicious activity within my network. From the current standpoint, and from seeing this form, I would say the issue lies with Roku.

Roku, I would like to ask, what is Roku going to do this problem?Based on the video, I provided Roku and my ISP of the cameras live streaming.Being other Roku cameras On other ISPs also are having this issue. It looks to be a Roku issue.I would like to ask you without a generic response of troubleshooting. How are you taking the security breach to your company and your customers seriously to protect us in the future and help us with our current situation?
