Search option disappeared on Roku TV

I've had my TCL Roku for about two years, and suddenly today, my search option was gone on my home screen. I suddenly can't search for any shows or movies. What happened? I didn't reset anything and I had the option initially since I had purchased the tv. Help!

      Hi VSAL

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.

Please be advised that the 'Search' functionality is not available if you are using a Roku device linked to a Roku account created in a region in which we do not directly market or sell Roku devices, including Roku TVs.

Currently, it is only available in English in Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Mexico and the United States for Spanish.

For more information, you can visit this Support link: How do I find movies and TV shows using Roku® Search?

Let us know if you need further assistance.

      All the best,
      Kariza

This happened to me today, too, and it was accompanied by (a) report of a software update, and (b) video instructions from Roku about using voice search. My TCL Roku TV does not support voice search. The video suggested using my phone, but I want to search on the tv so that I can just select the results. I don't want to search on a separate device and then have to search for the channels and search within the channels for the program. How can I de-update my software?

If this happens all you have to do is press the microphone on your remote (it’s on the remote and the remote app) after pressing the microphone say whatever your looking for. You will then see “thinking” on your tv screen and the thing you searched will be up there as well as other things you may be interested in. Maybe I wasn’t detailed enough on the other reply hopefully this helps everyone

I posted this problem about a month ago, and I wanted to report how we fixed it. System update did not fix it (the problem started right after a system update). Also, as I said, my remote does not support voice search.

But I did go into settings and poke around, and I ultimately chose a new visual interface for the home screen. This seems to have rebooted my left-side menu options, and search came back. I know this is not a very detailed or satisfying explanation. The analogy I'd offer is to installing and uninstalling an app on your phone, or maybe hiding and then re-showing the toolbar in Microsoft Word. I'm convinced I "fixed" this just by getting the television to reorganize what it shows on the home screen, and nudging it back towards the default. Maybe another analogy (which will show how old I am), is banging the back of the tv when the channel was not coming in clearly.

    • They won't even reply or give details under their "Settings" option to fix this although it was advised to another to go to their settings on a thread.

  • I was having an issue with tubi lately (it kept dumping the show and I had to start over). I decided I'd try removing and re-starting that channel. I went directly to the home page to search for "tubi" and ---- What Happened to my Roku home-page search??? It disappeared and I don't know how to fix it. I don't see a proper answer in this forum.

Ah! I found the answer. Do an update by choosing "Update settings". "system" > "update".

Took just a few minutes and my "search" is back where it belongs! Yay!

    Thanks for the inquiry.

Are you still experiencing this issue? Can you please provide us with a screenshot of your Home screen menu options?

In addition, can you please provide us the following information:
    -Roku TV brand and model
    -serial number
    -device ID
    -software OS/version
(these can all be found in Settings > System > About)

    Please keep us posted.

    Thanks,
    Danny

I have passed along the information to the appropriate Roku team to investigate further.

I don't understand why I can't look up specific shows for my children because the search option randomly has been disappearing since apparently early october. We have paid Roku before, and I found none of the answers helpful. What should I do to actually fix the issue, what kind of technical support could you offer to help? I cannot look up their favorite shows anymore. They are autistic. They need what they need. They need positive educational things I can search. Why is this happening over and over to everyone? And no I shouldn't have to provide my device ID to be able to actually get my search option back. I need explanations. Quickly. Thanks for your support and concern to everyone who has posted about this. I would appreciate support and concern from employees at Roku.

  • I had the same aggravating issue. First I went to Settings, System and System Update. When that was complete, I went to System Restart (directly under System Update). It fixed it and now my search option is back. Makes no sense but it worked!

    • It just happened to me too, Wednesday, Nov 23,2022. System restart fixed it. Update didn’t help, messing around with other settings didn’t help, but system restart did it. Thanks !

Infuriating. And an unacceptable example of corporate greed.

        Hi Lpereira14

        Thanks for the post.

Could you tell us where are you currently located? Please be advised that the 'Search' functionality is not available if you are using a Roku device linked to a Roku account created in a region in which we do not directly market or sell Roku devices, including Roku TVs.

Furthermore, make sure that the email address linked to your TV is your email address. You can do this by navigating to Settings > System > About

  • Greedy corporations decided that they didn't want to offer you the ability to use competition to save you money. This is Corporate greed that is running rampant in our society. Don't fall for it. If we just suck it up and do without for a little while they will change their ways or die as a company.
