Roku Streaming Stick remote inquiry

Looking at purchasing a new streaming stick....does the remote need line of site to work

      My usb and hdmi port are behind my TV...out of site....I don't want to use voice remote...

    No.  Roku voice remotes (which the sticks require) work via Wi-Fi direct.
