Roku Voice Remote Pro 1st ed is confused

Hello —

I am having a problem with my roku pro remote –

About a year or so ago I bought the Roku Voice Remote Pro remote. At the time it was still the first edition to replace the original remote. I generally used the headphone jack most of the time and on the original remote the headphone jack stopped working. Voice Remote Pro (1st ed) has a headphone jack, so once paired I was able to again use wired headphones again.

The Pro Remote has the voice switch and I have it turn OFF and I can see the on-screen status that it is set to off. This remote does not have batteries but has a USB port to recharge it.

Something when wrong with this remote. I now get pop-up message on the screen saying “I can’t hear you” — the talk button is off. Since there are no batteries I can’t power it down by removing them – so I when to the remote’s on screen setting and specified to “forget” the remote but it keeps connecting!

Last night when I turned off the tv – it turned itself back on! Other than breaking open the remote is there a way to stop it from connecting and turning on the tv?

    Try holding Home and Back (the two buttons next to each other at the top of the remote) simultaneously for 20 seconds.  That supposedly resets the remote, but it doesn't seem to unpair it.  Maybe that will fix it.  I don't know what that "Forget remote" option is supposed to do since it clearly states that the remote is not really forgotten - "It will still work and display in the list when any button is pressed".

    Do you have a Roku TV or a Roku device connected to a TV?  It sounds like there may be a flaky button that's registering intermittent presses.

      Hello — thanks for the reply – the roku unit is the roku-ultra which I got in 2020. The pro remote I got around 2023. The photo is of the TV at the remote screen for the Pro Remote. The last 2 line/items on the screen are “hand free voice” which is “off” and “forget remote” which does the unpair. I will try to use the button on the remote to see if that works. How far from the ultra does the remote have to be not to connect to the ultra?

        The remote uses W-Fi Direct and the theoretical range of Wi-Fi direct is pretty far:

        "WiFi Direct operates by capable devices sending discovery messages to scan for any other device within detection range that have WiFi Direct enabled. This range can be anywhere up to 200 meters."

        I doubt Roku remotes have that kind of range, but I don't think moving it to the next room will keep it from connecting.  🙂
