All of a sudden, when I go to the live TV guide, the top half of the screen is large icons of my favorites. This forces me to make extra clicks to get where I want. Can this new “feature” be disabled?

I went to use my live tv channel guide and found a new irritating little treasure.
instead of actually Going to the channel guide, it pops up to a row of squares/tiles above with "On Now" tv show suggestions. The channel I'm currently watching is first and highlighted. In order to then Use my channel guide I now have to arrow back down. This just appeared. My software was last updated 2 months ago. This started a few days ago. I can't find a setting to turn it off. It's stupid to add extra steps. How do I get rid of this????- JEBeck11 months agoReel Rookie
Same here, and now I have to click Back twice to exit the channel guide too. Annoying, and I can't find it in settings either.

I am with you, Barnabas, I hate it!! I am soooo tired of Roku changing my settings!!!
- pmtg10 months agoChannel Surfer
and Roku....don't think we do not know what you are doing.
It is clear Roku is creating a pretense that these new tiles at the top are for convenience.
But we see through this - roku is putting many tiles of stations we do not care about and do not want to see, let alone have to click out of just to get to our real favorites, along the top after one or two favorites.
We already had a category for favorites the Tv landed on immediately or we could find easily.
Roku, you've already violated our privacy in the past - stop violating our enjoyment of the product we paid money for.

I feel the exact SAME way. I hate this new feature which forces me to do MORE CLICKING just to get to the channel I want OR the last channel I viewed on the tv guide. For me, this is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. Roku should include a feature which allows users to TURN OFF the Favorites above the Live TV Guide for those NOT wanting it. There's no "one size fit all" for everyone and Roku should have taken this into account by adding a TURN OFF feature. Now, users have to do MORE CLICKING just to get to the channels on the Roku LiveTV Guide. HIGHLY ANNOYING TO SAY THE LEAST.

I agree it really sucks. Why can't we have choice to delete it?
- reallyrandy8 months agoChannel Surfer
I solved it by deleting the roku live tv and using Plex and Pluto. I'll solve it further next time I buy a TV and go with something other than roku.

I agree! "This forces me to make extra clicks to get where I want"! I believe the techs who come up with these new features must be techs who don't actually use Roku.

Hi, Barnabas.
We're glad to have you joined us here in the Roku Community!
That's an important question! Currently, this feature doesn't have an option to disable it on your Roku. Since you're our valued customer and we value your opinion, we'll take this as feedback and are happy to pass it along to the appropriate team.
Please let us if you need further clarification or need more help.
Cheers,
Emman- Barnabas11 months agoChannel Surfer
Since when is adding more clicks to do the same task an improvement?
- Barnabas11 months agoChannel Surfer
And Roku gets to decide which answer is the solution to my question??? And of course they decide to make their confusing non-answer the official solution. I just found a way to choose their Solution to be NOT a solution. Can Roku make this any more frustrating?

RokuEmmanuel-D- Emman,
You said "Please let us (know) if you need further clarification or need more help."
Can you please tell us why this new feature, that many of us do not want, was implemented?
Thanks

I, and many others have been complaining here about this new feature since early December, and now Roku goes and issues a press release telling the world how wonderful this new feature is. That is quite a surprise to the many here on multiple discussions who are complaining about this unwanted feature and wishing to be able to turn it off. Even the Roku folks have stopped replying to us. They are ignoring their core customers, hoping that we will all go away. I used to be an evangelist for Roku --.
Here is the press release: https://cordcuttersnews.com/roku-upgrades-its-live-tv-guide-upgrade-for-enhanced-viewing-experience-on-roku-tv-roku-players-as-the-roku-channel-tops-500-free-live-channels/

Problems:
1/ we agree with other people commenting on this change to the live tv screen
2/ when we try to give a thumbs up kudos to the aforementioned comments to which we agree, we get a failed ''post'' attempt with a red bar saying authentication failed. (we are logged in.)
3/ when we try to leave a comment, a.k.a a ''post'', the page removes us from the forum and takes us to our dashboard instead!
Why, why, and why?!
- pmtg10 months agoChannel Surfer
and what is this ''newbie'' label under the user name? what nonsense is this, this labeling?
we reject your prejudicial labels an false labels.
we are not ''newbies'' to roku and you know it!

To turn off the additional streaming channels on the Live TV grid: Go to Settings > TV Inputs > Live TV > Manage channels > check Hide streaming channels. It works

I don't want to hide channels, I want to be able to hide the categories in the guide. It used to be you only had to cycle through "All Channels", "Recents", "Recommended" and "Favorites". Now, after "Favorites", you have to cycle through"Add-ons", "Entertainment", "News & Opinion", "TV Shows", "Music", "Movies", "Crime", "Sports", "Comedy", "Reality", "En Español", "Game Shows" and "Kids & Family" before you get back to "All Channels".
What was the benefit of the old way? You could hold the button and scroll all the way down to the end of all channels and you would only have to go through "Recents", "Recommended" and "Favorites", which are generally fairly short lists, and you would be back to the top of "All Channels". The first week you start using Live TV, you might not need to scroll through every channel except to find favorites. After a few months, you can get sick of your favorites because you're into repeats on almost every favorite. That's when you start wanting to scroll through all the channels...you just don't want to have to scroll through all the repetitions of the channel sub-sets in the categories.

Roku says that this new feature can not be turned off.
Also, I do not see "TV Inputs" under Settings. Maybe my Roku is different from yours.
- tmitch1208 months agoChannel Surfer
"TV Inputs" only applies to Roku TVs, not Roku devices. The first TV I saw that had Roku on it, was not fully integrated. It was like having a Roku device attached to the TV with the benefit of not using up an HDMI port. If you have one like that, it may not have the "TV Inputs" either, I don't know.
The easiest way to find channel management is, while your are watching "Live TV", press the "*" button, scroll down to "Manage channel" and press "ok" or the right arrow. From there, you can choose to manage either favorites or the channel lineup.

I found that on my Roku TV but never saw it on my HiSense with Roku TV. Anyway it worked and I am really grateful for the advice.
Edited in : Sadly that also got rid of my streaming channels list, so I had to turn it back on. Thanks for trying.
