HDMI Handshake 4K 30Hz not 60Hz

Model: 4802x - Roku Ultra  SW version 14.6

Set to DISPLAY type: 4K  Dolby vision HDR TV, or 4K HDR TV or 4K TV

Will not handshake at 4K 60 Hz.    When I choose Youtube TV at the top it shows the handshake and it is 4K 30 HZ.  Lenovo PC 2024 handshakes at 4K 60 Hz.  Same Cable.  The cable is high quality CRESTRON 4K HDMI cable - expensive.

Why won't the ROKU handshake at 60Hz

TV is a 2024 Samsung QN65QN90C brand new

  • Hey there!

Here's an update from the team. Just a heads up, this right here is not a device issue, rather it's an app limitation. Movies are filmed in 24 (23.97) fps, and TV shows in 30 (29.97) fps. This directly translates to Hz for TV, so YouTube TV would be showing things in a max of 30 fps, so the app would only need to use 30 Hz. Other apps like YouTube may have videos in 60 fps, so it would go up to 60 Hz.

Since this is an app/content-dependent feature, you may need to reach out directly to YouTube TV support for additional help.

    We hope this clarifies everything!

Here is the 2 second HDMI ROKU device Handshake banner that appears above the Home screen about 1 out every turn ons from Remote Home button.  See attached

2decadesstreamn have you enabled the Deep Color (I think that's the name) setting on the HDMI port you have your Roku connected to? Without that setting, I believe 4K/30 is the best you can get. Also, if you're using an AVR (doesn't sound like it, but wanted to mention anyway) it also have to have the high bandwidth settings enabled.

  • Hi, I'm referring to the ROKU device handshake that takes place as soon as you Hit the HOME Key on the RC MC1.  about 1 out of every times I turn on the Roku device using the HOME Key - not the Power Key, The Roku will display a  2 second banner at the top where it shows 3840X2160 60 Hz.  Display is set to 4K (Plain)  If I set it to 4K HDR TV or 4K Dolby Vision HDR TV then the 2 second banner will show the Handshake at 30 Hz instead of 60 Hz.   Check my Samsung model.  It supports both HDR and Dolby Vision HDR TV, yet the Roku device will not handshake on Home Start at 4K 60Hz unless the Display type is set to just 4K.

Again this banner is a Roku banner that flashes for 2 seconds approximately every 4th Home Start up. The banner does not come up at the top of the Roku Home screen every time.  Which is a shame.  This is BEFORE any apps are chosen.

I'm not aware of any Samsung TV that support Dolby Vision. Samsung supports HDR+, not DV. I double-checked the model number you provided. It does NOT support DV. No Samsung TV does.
