Hello....thank you for taking time to respond. I am using a Roku stick that is about 3 years old. My remote is new. I purchased it thinking my original remote was the culprit but it wasn't. I use this remote because I have hearing issues and this one allows me to use a plug-in headphone. (TV does not have bluetooth.) TV is mounted on the wall so I don't have easy access to the stick. To correct the problem I stop my program, do a Roku restart and then I can go back to watching. I experience either the sound fading to nothing or the sound blasting loud. Not on Roku streaming the TV does not have sound issues. Thanks again!
The sound quits when done with the first episode of any premium channel. When It happens on Disney, Prime or Netflix it's off on all of them
These things are just special purpose computers. Like their big brothers sometimes clearing things out by restarting** them can correct problems.
Depending on your Roku model you'll find the "System restart" under "Settings > System > Power", or if you have no Power option, under "Settings > System".
If a restart doesn't do it, or if you don't have sufficient control with the remote to navigate the Roku menus, you can also restart by pulling the power plug to the Roku for a minute or so then plugging it back in.
** If yours is a Roku TV with "Fast TV" start enabled, turning the set off/on just puts it in/out of a low power standby state and doesn't give you a complete restart. Use the restart methods above.
I have the same issue but it happens every time I watch any channel. Either the sound disappears or it gets extremely loud and the remote will not change it. I have found the only way to get normal sound is to do a restart which is annoying needing to do this each time I watch something. Is it the USB Roku stick? I purchased a new voice remote hoping for a solution but that didn't help.
Does the TV remote control the volume? I recall that my parents had a TV whose volume control would randomly increase to maximum and it was fixed via a firmware update.
Thank you for your response. Firmware update? Meaning? TV is updated. I purchased a new Roku remote which is the only remote I use because I'm streaming. My only other viewing option is Antenna and then I would use the TV remote.
Meaning I updated the firmware in their TV. (Downloaded on a computer, copy to USB drive, loaded firmware on TV - weird rising volume issues fixed.)
As for which remote, the TV doesn't care which remote sends it a volume command. You can freely use the TV remote volume while streaming if that helps your problem.
@DblkerOut of curiosity, is the Roku (model #?) plugged into the TV or an AVR? And have you ever used an app like WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar if you have an iPhone? While untypical, sometimes WiFi channel congestion can be the culprit and knowing how many others use the same channel, a solution. Personally I prefer wired to wireless since it mitigates channel congestion completely, but as the saying goes, each to their own
Wireless interference can sometimes cause the Roku to quirky things, such as FF on its own, volume change, etc. If you have other wireless devices, such as a cell phone or the router is close to the Roku, sometimes those signals can confuse the Roku.
