Re: Sling TV will not load up. All other apps work

Jump to solution

Hi, @RokuCarly,

As soon as I get a chance, I'll swap in the other model (a newer 4K Roku Ultra) that has the same problems, and list it's info as well, should be largely the same though other than device ID serial and probably specific build.

Thanks,

Endy

Re: Sling TV will not load up. All other apps work

@RokuCarly,

Okay, my second unit's information:

Model: 4802x
Serial: X010003TAGV2
Device ID: S0DA222TAGV2

Software Version: 13.1.4. Build 1510-C2

Tracker ID: V2-369-795

I've tried all the same troubleshooting steps on this unit as the other, multiple reboots/hard resets, uninstall and reinstall the sling app (It has the same Sling app version as the one in my first post),

checked for updates both in the Roku software menu and for the channel (through the * options).

It exhibits the exact same behavior as my other model (black screen with infinitely spinning white circle, eventually requiring double home button press to escape.

That's both my units. I've also just gotten an email from Roku support asking if I "still need help with my issue" but the "here's what you talked about" is blank, so...not sure what to do with that.

Thanks,
Endy

@RokuCarly,

The SlingTV App updated to 8.130 build 16950 a couple of days ago, but no change to my Roku Ultra 4670x as of yet. I assume the same for the 4K model, just figured I'd leave an update.

Thanks,

@RokuCarly,

At this point I'm just hoping whenever my devices get the update to Roku OS 14, it just magically starts working.

Thanks,

@Endymion, seeing how glitchy Sling is on all my other devices, I'm not holding out much hope that they'll fix it any time soon, they can't seem to make fast-forward or reverse to work - which is bizarre since that doesn't require actual mechanical machinery to perform.  It seems like all kinds of other tools can handle those 2 actions - and have for maybe 4 ... DECADES?  I guess the devs at Sling only learned about the concept of fast-forward and reverse just recently?  I may look into replacing my Roku with my Xbox, if I can find a remote controller that works the way you'd expect a remote to work for TV viewing and watch Sling there since it (kind of) works on Xbox.

I only cut the cord a couple years ago and have been slowly learning about options out there, but it was only a couple months ago that Xcrappity, I mean, Comcrap, I mean, Nofinity, I mean, Monopocrappity, I mean, Xfinity fixed my internet coming into this rental, so now I'm finally getting serious about getting a quality streaming service since I have confirmed (and always suspected) that the outside cable coming to this house was the primary problem with my internet for the past 2 1/2 years.  Xfinity finally relented and replaced that short cable just about a month ago.

Maybe Sling isn't working on our Roku devices because the devs were trying to fix fast-forward and reverse but then completely broke Sling's ability to load at all....

I'm a software developer myself so I have little patience for other devs not being able to do basic tasks that have been available for decades in other tools.

@Why-PuckYou, I've actually been impressed how much better it is on my android phone, tablet, and Edge PC Browser than Spectrum's app was. The fast forward/rewind thumbnails alone make commercial skipping easy, and it's been fast and responsive, especially with my locals/AirTV2 setup. But having good Internet (witch Spectrum finally gave me after I was ready to leave for fiber) helps. Who knew I could get 600/600 from cable? Not me.

Re: Sling TV will not load up. All other apps work

@Endymion, yeah, Sling can work ok in the Edge browser on PC, in fact, that is usually how I watch Sling on PC.  I guess it works in Chrome too.  Sling sound is absolute garbage in the Firefox browser on PC.

One problem with every device (except maybe Roku? I just don't recall) is that when one show ends and another starts, the video controls simply aren't available.  I have to wait for a commercial in the new show that started, then close out the channel, then restart the channel in order to get my video controls working again.

Lame.
