Roku Ultra Black Screen (5 seconds) Navigating Menu?

Hi,

I have a Roku Ultra connected to my Denon receiver via a quality HDMI cable. The receiver is connected to an LG Plasma TV (PV400 model circa 2008) via a quality HDMI cable. Great TV and never had a problem with my old Roku 3.

When I first turn the TV on and attempt to navigate between apps on the Roku Ultra’s main menu, the screen goes to black for several seconds, creating a frustrating delay before I can see the picture again, making the effectively unusable. In order to get the Roku ultra to work properly, I have to restart the unit and then it works just fine for my viewing session.

Having to restart the unit every time I turn the TV on is also annoying and possibly not good for the unit? Is there a permanent way to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Try turning off "Power saving" (which doesn't save much power) under Settings->System->Power.  I don't know if the display refresh rate could be part of it, but you can try playing with the "auto-adjust display refresh rate" settings.

How to change the display refresh rate to match the native format of each movie, video or TV show | ...

@jabbay

If what @renojim suggests doesnt solve the issue, try the following:

1) Settings/Display type = 1080p TV (manually configure this - Do NOT use automatic)

2) Using your remote:  Home 5x, Down, Left, Up 3x (displays "HDMI Secret Screen") then select Disable Automatic Recovery  - press Home when you are done.

NOTE:  If your Roku ever boots up and displays a blank screen, try connecting it directly to your TV temporarily and do #2 (Enable Automatic Discovery) - otherwise you'll either need to do #2 again "blind"  or Factory Reset the device (using the reset button on the bottom of the Roku).
