ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Roku TV Screen Mirroring not Working ghstreaa TL;DR: RokuOS doesnt have GoogleCast/ChromeCast support and your Pixel 7 doesnt have Miracast support, so you cant mirror from your Pixel 7 to your Roku. ---------------------------------------------------------------- RokuOS native casting/mirroring protocol support: Supported: DIAL (casting), Miracast (mirroring), AirPlay (casting/mirroring), PlayOnRoku (casting) Not Supported: GoogleCast/Chromecast (casting/mirroring), MATTER (casting) Android OS natively supports GoogleCast/Chromecast (unsupported) and DIAL (supported) - Miracast (supported) support was removed/deprecated (in favor of GoogleCast/Chromecast) since version 6.x, though some manufacturers re-enable it (e.g. Samsung via SmartView). The YouTube/YouTube TV apps use DIAL (supported) for casting. Your Google Pixel 7 (Android OS) cant screen mirror to your Roku because it uses GoogleCast/ChromeCast (unsupported) and not Miracast (supported). Your YT app can cast to your Roku because it uses DIAL (supported). Its a Google and Roku thing: Google removed/deprecated native Miracast support from Android OS (and you arent using an Android OS device that restores it), and Roku doesn't license/use GoogleCast/Chromecast. You may be able to install/use a third-party app to provide/'restore' Miracast functionality or other 'proprietary' casting/mirroring functionality, otherwise you wont be able to mirror @ at all (because no Miracast) or cast from most apps (unless they use DIAL - most dont anymore as they (long ago) removed their DIAL support (if they ever had it) in favor of GoogleCast/ChromeCast, with a few exceptions). (NOTE: Samsung mobile devices provide the 'best' casting/mirroring support in the Android OS world since they (in general, apart from specific firmware version/model limitations) provide both Miracast and GoogleCast/ChromeCast support via the SmartView service/app for mirroring, and apps are DIAL or GoogleCast/ChromeCast enabled for casting) Re: Howdy showed up on my Roku device TheVoiceJM Less than a page or two's worth of standard size text - shouldn't take more than a few minutes, even for a wild Howdy-'Doody'-obvious-orifice-tie-in-missing hobbyist such as yourself. ...and you still need to enable a Purchase Pin to preclude your orificial offspring from erroneously engaging in any further future surprise subscriptions causing complaints... Re: Howdy showed up on my Roku device TheVoiceJM FYI Howdy is a Roku-owned subscription service/app so its certainly within their prerogatives to install it on RokuOS without your specific consent just like any other RokuOS software, including firmware/middleware/apps. You can complain all you want, but in fact you consented to this behavior when you activated your account/device and agreed to the Terms of Service/Use. From the Roku Account Terms/Products Terms of Use: "In accepting these terms, you are also agreeing that: (1) any disputes between us will be settled by binding arbitration (meaning we both give up the right to go to court), (2) the software installed on your Roku devices may be automatically updated, and (3) your recurring subscriptions will automatically renew and your account will continued to be charged for those subscriptions until you cancel." "We reserve the right (at any time) to modify, suspend, or remove certain features, functionality, or content from your Roku account or your Roku product(s)." "We (or our content providers) may update, add, or remove channels, content, and/or content providers from time to time (possibly without notice to you)." Finally, you should enable a purchase pin. which you are also responsible for (see the Terms): "At your option, you can require a PIN code (a personal identification number you create) to access certain content (such as fee-based entertainment or content not suitable for certain children). You can enable or disable your PIN code at any time through your Roku account." I suggest you actually read the Terms of Service/Use now and in the future before activating/using any software/service/product. Re: HomeRun Audio passthrough renojim DaveR849 The 4670 cannot transcode/decode Dolby to PCM (which is all your TV supports) since it lacks a Dolby decoder. If you want to continue using that TV you either need to get/use a RokuOS player model with a Dolby decoder (newer Ultras: 4800/4802/4850 - not the 4801) or you need to disable AC3/5.1 passthrough in your HDHR settings (Stereo/PCM output only). Re: Roku device Turns Off At Startup jcgc50 Try disabling power savings: Settings/System/Power/Auto power savings = unchecked (APS is known to cause all sorts of issues especially when coming out of standby - the very minimal "power savings" actually provided by enabling it isnt worth the instability/issues with having it enabled) You need to (@ least temporarily) use the provided USB PS to verify that it isnt an amperage issue with the TV's USB port. If all streams fail/app crashes to Home after that, you need to contact Tennis Channels CS about the issue (its their app - they develop and publish it): Submit a ticket to The Tennis Channel Re: Enable CEC to control the power and volume buttons dericholt1 You didnt mention your Element TV model #. Its not clear why you cant use the TV's remote to configure the TV's setup (manufacturer remotes always have a setup/menu/settings button to access the configuration/setup menus). (e.g. The remote that came with my old Element TV (not smart, no CEC) has a menu button) Regardless Roku (paired) remotes support two TV control options: IR and CEC Try configuring your remote for IR (instead of CEC) for TV control, that way you avoid having to enable CEC in the TV (which may or may not have CEC): Settings/Remotes & devices/Remotes/<your remote>/Setup remote for TV control/IR setup Re: Ultra 2024- Audio Volume level concern CaptainCrewe Yes, it applies to all playback until either you change it again, or the device is Factory Reset* NOTE that some firmware versions/builds have Leveling enabled by default And yes, Roku will/does prune (and relocate/combine) threads: e.g. @RokuRhiamie-D once again made a very false (and utterly inapplicable to your OP) statement regarding Roku remote capabilities. "It" (because its likely a bot, or the worst trained Roku employee to work the forums with a unisex name) claimed Roku remotes cant control TV volume, only TV remotes can - I (once again) replied to "it" that "it" was wrong (again) and that "it" needs to be trained (again) regarding basic Roku remote functionality/behavior. Another Roku mod came along and removed those 2 posts (cant have their bot/untrained employee exposed). FYI the Roku community software (Khorus) was recently explicitly upgraded to facilitate/use more AI/bots after Khorus' recent acquisition+technology upgrade earlier this year: IgniteTech Acquires Khoros to Transform Customer Connections in the AI Answer Engine Era ------------------ "For Khoros Communities: AI Expert Help – Advanced AI providing immediate, multi-lingual responses, reducing response times from hours to minutes while driving higher engagement. AI Discovery Defender – Ensures community content remains discoverable by AI systems, as unprepared competitors face 49% traffic losses following Google's AI introduction. AI Brand Defender – Monitors what AI systems say about your brand, correcting misinformation while maintaining narrative control. Brands with sophisticated monitoring see 18% higher clickthrough rates. AI Community Orchestration – AI tools working alongside community managers to generate content, moderate interactions, analyze sentiment and identify engagement opportunities—creating vibrant communities while surfacing actionable insights." ------------------ Note the first and fourth points (AI 'Expert Help' & 'Community Orchestration') - so there are going to be more faster uninformed/wrong/incorrect/inaccurate responses from more bad/poorly data trained/code LLM AI bots/Roku accounts (perhaps like the unisex named 'RokuRhiamie-D'), and any posts/comments/content pointing such out will be 'moderated' (removed) - faster and more seamlessly than ever... Re: Ultra 2024- Audio Volume level concern CaptainCrewe The linked support article & directions do in fact apply to the 48xx Ultra models (2020/2021/2022/2024): Start playing a movie, TV show, or other content Press Star * on your Roku remote Navigate to Sound Settings Select Customize sound mode and choose the desired setting Set Volume Leveling = Off *** NOTE that you MUST start playback of any content first before you can access these settings *** Otherwise the easiest way to increase volume is to disable surround sound: Settings/Audio/Digital output format = Stereo (Auto may also work to increase volume levels if your connected device supports Dolby MAT 2.x PCM) Re: Roku streaming stick plus 3830x (4K UHD issues) Michael38 This is most likely an app+region+specific model provisioning issue: Prime & Now TV (and possibly others) may not be 4K/HDR/Atmos provisioned for the 3830 in the UK. Some apps/service require that each and every different model (e.g. 3830) of a platform (e.g. RokuOS) be explicitly provisioned for 4K/HDR/Atmos VOD and/or Live (usually separately) (Prime on the 3830 is (mostly) provisioned for 4K/HDR/Atmos VOD in the US - Live HDR10 (e.g. NFL/sports) support isnt provisioned for any RokuOS devices/models in the US). You'll (and others) need to directly contact Amazon UK for Prime and NOW/Now TV for Now about specifically provisioning the 3830 for 4K/HDR/Atmos for their respective apps/services. (This was an issue for 3830 and some apps/services in the US until very recently: Peacock & Vudu were not provisioned for 4K/HDR/Atmos until the last few weeks - the 3830 was released in May) Prime considerations: Keep in mind that the Prime app uses a 720p UI on ALL RokuOS devices/models (except for the 4850 - Ultra 2024, which uses a 1080p UI) regardless of region or being provisioned for 4K/HDR/Atmos playback - the app's UI looks blurry because its 720p, but that is separate from the stream/playback quality. You can check the Prime app's stream/playback quality by accessing the Developer OSD via remote button sequence: L, R, U, D, U, D then R, L, U, D, then check the "Video Quality" box for bitrate+resolution details. Finally, sometimes the Prime app limits/lowers the streaming playback resolution to 1080p when the Prime app's Autoplay setting is disabled - try turning Prime's Autoplay = ON if you notice streaming quality is limited to 1080p. Otherwise if this isnt the 720p UI issue, and Autoplay is enabled, then you'll need to contact Amazon UK as previously stated. NOW/Now TV considerations: Since NOW/Now TV is essentially a UK-only venture (aside from Xfinity customers in the US, and only available via Xfinity service/app) I cant comment on its 4K/HDR/Atmos/etc provisioning process/status, and you'll have to contact NOW/Now TV directly about provisioning the 3830 for 4K/HDR/Atmos/etc.
