Solving playback issues

Same problem as post here and in the link that had 20 pages of people with this same issue.  It locked up for the four time today now so:

This is the newest software as I tried to fix the issue, that has been going on for the last 5 or 6 months, by wiping my Roku and re-installing all updates, Chanel software, and setting up my accounts again as suggested in the other post that got locked, but is linked to on the first post here in this thread.

If you want to recreate this issue, just pick a football game and pick "Watch highlight plays".  Before it can get through the highlighted plays, the Roku will be locked up, as it can not fast forward to the next play.

My wife has stopped watching the TV because of this issue and I am getting ready to drop Roku, as you do not and have not fixed the problem.  I also have a new Roku Ultra, in the box, that I tried and is going back as that did not fix the problem.  I am going to fix this problem.  Onn Google TV 4k Pro will replace the Roku Ultra and fix this issue that Roku does not want or is not capable of fixing.

Here is another one to add to my list:

I can keep these coming if you want.  All you have to do to lock Roku up is pick a football game in YouTube TV and select "Watch highlights".  It will lockup the Roku before you can watch all the game highlights.  It does this on all the games I have tried to watch the highlights on.  Why does this take so long to fix?  It has been ~5 or 6 months since this was first reported here.  One lock up was so bad, I could not resume watching after backing out of YouTube TV and starting it all over on my Roku, it would just lock the screen as soon as I hit resume on the playback.  I had to log into my YouTube TV account on my computer and run the show from there.  I noticed that the time display on the playback did not make sense as it showed 444 minutes that the show was up to and the show was not that long.  It had to buffer way back and the show finally started to play on the YouTube TV web site on my computer.  It looked like the video time was being corrupted when fast forwarding with the Roku.  It is random but happens offend.  If you want more, I can generate pages full by watch game highlights of NFL football.

Just put an order in for the Google streamer 4k.  

Unlike any other technology, the playback experience on dvr's peaked in the early 2000's with TIVO.  Since then we have accepted a declining playback experience in order to get the convenience of streamed services like youtubetv.  

However, without reliable fast forward we really don't have a dvr.  If another vendor offers what we need we will move over.  We invested heavily in Roku, have been happy, but there's a limit to what we will accept, and now Roku doesn't work for us.

That is all you can really do.  I am moving in a few months and think I will reassess my needs and options then.  Most of my Roku devices are several years old anyway. They still work (more or less) but the company is obviously not going to keep up with patches anymore.  I guess it's time to move on to something else.

Piggy-backing onto your comment(s). This has been very frustrating and I've stopped watching football using the Roku Ultra and watch on the same Sony TV using it's Android OS. NO ISSUES!!!

That's a good idea. I have older TVs that wouldn't support it, but my biggest screen has all of the whistles and bells. The fewer devices I have to replace, the better. I feel a little silly for not looking at an alternative that is right in front of me. Do you still use your Roku most of the time and just log on to your streaming service through the smart TV for sports?  If it has apps for all of my services, I may just use the smart TV all the time.

Correct for Sports I switch. Since most Sports I record, I can only watch them w/o using my Roku. Very frustrating, since I own 7 Roku TV devices. And as many others have said, I would have upgraded most of them by now, but instead I'm using that money for alternate options.
