Using new roku stick on a TCL Roku TV hdmi port

Hi, my 4 year old roku tv has started to intermittently go black and return to the main menu about 6 or 7 times an hour. My solution was to try my pre4K roku stick and see if it was the Roku interface on the tv itself that was crapping out. It worked perfectly. So, I ordered a new UHD/4K/HD roku stick and installed it. The installation went fine, except it is stuck on the final screen saying "All complete", and whenever I return to that HDMI port from the main screen, it won't budge. The remote supplied with the stick has basically reverted to roku tv remote, and not a roku stick remote. The older model didn't have that issue. I really don't want to trash the 65" TV, but I want this to work.

After writing this, I just came up with another idea, purchase apple tv or a fire stick. Really don't want to. I have the Roku interface burned into my brain.

Re: Using new roku stick on a TCL Roku TV hdmi port

Hi @synasoft,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

Thanks for sharing your concern here about the Roku Streaming stick that you're having trouble setting up with your TCL Roku TV. We would be more than willing to assist.

We strongly advise against using a Roku Streaming player with a built-in Roku TV. These devices are best suited for use with non-Roku televisions. By connecting them to a non-Roku TV, you can ensure a better streaming experience and avoid potential compatibility issues.

Thank you for your understanding. We hope you find this information helpful.

Regards,
Riamie

Re: Using new roku stick on a TCL Roku TV hdmi port

Does the remote for the stick actually control the TV?  Not just the power and volume, but the whole interface?

What happens if you press the reset button on the stick or disconnect the power briefly to get it to restart?

Do you have another TV you can use to complete the stick's setup?

Personally, I would ignore @RokuRiamie-D 's advice.  Sorry @RokuRiamie-D , but I use Roku devices on Roku TVs all the time.  I'd much rather have Roku's updates screw up my cheaper Roku device than my Roku TV.
