Hello, I’m new to Roku, just purchased the Ultra sku# 4850R and really like this device! Need some guidance… during setup this pop up message appeared, “Your tv supports better picture quality (4k hdr10)”. The “Get help to change setting…”, but that didn’t help guide me. I have Samsung UN75JU6500 which was advertised as 4K UHD (have Samsung Q990C soundbar connected, want to get Atmos working too but will table for later). I went thru all settings but was not able to find how to change display resolution to 4K. Google AI search didn’t help. Any help would be appreciated…
Hi @Showtime,
Thank you for your first post here in the Roku Community!
Roku Ultra and Roku Ultra LT will work with any television with an HDMI connection. However, you cannot take advantage of 4K Ultra HD resolution, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and similar HDR formats without a compatible TV. The detailed articles about setting up your Roku player for 4K or HDR provide more requirements.
You may also want to check out this support article on how to set up your Roku Ultra.
We hope this helps. Please keep us posted if there's anything else we can do to assist you.
You'll need to go to Settings > Display type. It should give you the option to pick the resolution to your TV. To get Atmos working you want to go to Settings > Audio and select the "Passthrough" option. This allows your soundbar to do all the audio decoding.
Hi John, thanks for the quick response but that really didn’t answer my questions.
The Samsung TV model I have is 4K UHD… which is same as 4K Ultra HD, which should make it compatible with the Roku Ultra to present 4K UHD, correct?
Please note what prompted my post was the message that appeared during Roku setup… it stated:
“Your tv supports better picture quality (4k hdr10)”… I was only able to proceed with instal with 1080p resolution.
That said, I want to do whatever is needed to have 4K UHD; How do I change the resolution settings from 1080p to 4K UHD?
Again, I have Samsung model UN75JU6500.
Hope I provided enough information to clarify what I’m looking for help on. Thank you…
Hello, right after posting response to John I saw your reply… I will try that out tomorrow. Thank you for your reply Bfagan94!
Hello BFagan94, thought you were referring to Roku settings… didn’t see option to change resolution there. I’m not able to find option to change display resolution settings to 4K UHD for my specific Samsung model, that is what I needed assistance with.
Google AI search didn’t yield any helpful information. Please advise.
My Bad! I was looking at settings on the Roku mobile app… just arrived home to find the Roku settings that was being referred to. Am changing settings now, sorry about that!
