Thank you. I will try that.
Sorry, I haven't been able to help. Technology can be quirky sometimes and doesn't always play nice or the way it is supposed to do even when everything is done correctly. That is also, assuming that the TV is working the way it should and doesn't have some physical issue.
My Dad has a (free/donated*) Vizio TV, connected to a DirecTV box, and several times I have "fixed it" by pulling out the HDMI cable and reinserting it. We just switched dad to Comcast a couple of days ago, so it will be interesting to see if having to occasionally reconnect it is a permanent "feature" of the TV or was specific to the Vizio/DirecTV combo.
*Dad is in an old folks' home where TVs are routinely left behind, so "free" doesn't usually mean troublesome.
Thank you. This set has been used very little since it was purchased. I understand how quirky technology can be. I am very good at finding the quirks! lol
I hope it works great for him now. That would be frustrating. I understand.
I just wanted to update you. Don't laugh too hard. I was reading a thread about Vizio tv's on an old Reddit post. Many of those people had problems with their Vizio tv's not turning back on without unplugging and plugging back in. I noticed one guy said he bought a remote control outlet for a lamp and plugged his tv into it and that solved the problem for him. So I bought a wireless outlet with a remote control today. Plugged the Roku Ultra into the regular wall outlet and plugged the tv into the wireless outlet and plugged the wireless outlet into the wall. I hit the on button on the wireless remote, then hit the power button on the tv remote. It worked! The tv stayed on, so I just hit the home button on the Roku remote. Anyway, it will hold me over until I can get a better set in that room.
This was the post on Reddit that gave me the idea.
I solved the "unplugging" problem by purchasing one of those remote control devices people use for turningon and off their lamps etc. I use the remote (I purchased mine from Amazon for $9.99) to turn off the TV and then turn it back on after a few seconds. The remote apparently is equivalent to unplugging the TV. I then push the "on" button on my Verizon remote. The little light on the bottom left of the TV which lights up when it is turning on appears. Usually it fades away in a few seconds. I then push the "on" button on the TV remote again and the TV comes on in a a couple of seconds. Not the perfect solution but it keeps me from having to go to the TV and unplug it every time I want to turn it on.
