Airplay Code is Not Accepted on iPhone

I just received a brand new streaming stick 4K.  My airplay in settings is set to require code the first time only.  When I try to connect my iPhone, it asks for the code on the screen.  But when I enter it, it does not accept it and keeps asking me for the code.  I have powered down the Roku stick and tried again, but the issue is still there.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • I had the same problem and opened a support ticket with Roku. They mentioned it was a known issue, their engineering team was working on it, and they would email me when they figure a solution.

Meanwhile, I figured it out 🙂

This new Roku Stick was replacing a very old one. The old one was registered in my Apple account. All I had to do was remove the old one and the new one worked out fine.

    This is what you do:

On your iPhone (or iPad), go to Settings, Apple ID. If you see a Roku device there, delete it (remove from account).

Once you do that, go to your new Roku, Settings, Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, and go straight to HomeKit setup. Let your iPhone/iPad read the QR Code and follow the prompts in your iPhone/iPad.

Once you set it up in HomeKit, you will not need an AirPlay Code because it will be a trusted device in your home.

Hope this works for you. Good luck!

The Roku device under my apple ID is for my TCL television. I don't have a Roku streaming stick in there.

richleonThanks! I will definitely try this. Even if this works, I’d still consider this a bug since this basically means you can’t register more than 1 Roku device to your iPhone. I’m planning to use the other Roku in the bedroom, and the new one in the living room, so I’d like to have them registered at the same time.

I'm glad it worked for someone but I really don't think this is the solution. I have 3 Roku sticks and 2 TCL Roku TV's. This is the only one it does not work on,

  • I just purchased my streaming stick 4k and am having the same issue. Apple forum says to add to homekit. Same issue. My phone is scanning the code from the onscreen message and says the code is incorrect

Had another Roku on order and that one had no issues with airplay. Sending the faulty one back

You might check to see if your router has a feature enabled with a name like: wireless isolation, AP isolation or client isolation.  This security feature lets each device get onto the internet but prevents them from accessing each other.

Strega I have this issue with a brand new Roku Streaming Stick 4K (3820x). However, my older Roku is working just fine. So I don't think it's an issue with the router (at least not for me). rishkh It's not clear in your description how it doesn't work. For me, the devices can see each other, however, when I try to type the code to "pair" them, my device won't accept the code. It keeps saying I entered the wrong code even when I didn't.

  • I have the same problem, tried a few iPhones and iPads. No Airplay possible.

Please post a solution when you find one. Since I do not find older posts about this issue, it looks like a bug needed to be fixed with a firmware update. Thanks

Works now! Did a software update tonight (Dec 😎 and it works now. Tried mirroring with one iPhone and two iPads: all worked.

  • I’m having the same issue. There was an old Reddit thread where someone had this problem with a Sony bravia and someone had to make a change to a privacy setting. But that doesn’t seem applicable here.

Yes.  I saw that also and tried the same thing,  But it wasn't a thing in this case.

  • Ended up returning mine to Walmart and picking up a “new”  (clearly previously returned) one off the shelf. This one works fine.

I also want to add that I have an Airplay issue that may or may not be related. A 4 digit code will appear on the screen and tell me to enter on Ipad/IPhone but when it do, it doesn't accept and prompts another code to enter.

Same issue with airplay. Code is generated but not accepted.

Had to generate some more logs and video for apple support before my case would be sent to the developers.
