I’ve been using my Roku stick for years, and it’s worked with the app remote until the last few days.
I recently got a new WiFi network, and in the beginning the app connected and worked. Then, all of a sudden, the app can no longer find my device. I’ve tried everything to troubleshoot:
-Restart App and device
-unplug device, try another hdmi input
- sign out and redownload Roku on my phone and TV
-manually connect with IP address
- restart and unplug WiFi
nothing is working!! The app is the only way I can connect to speakers and this is super frustrating. Help!
I don't know why it would suddenly get enabled, but some routers have a setting for "client isolation" so that connected devices can't communicate with each other. It's commonly enabled on public networks, but home users wouldn't generally use it.

YOU ARE MY HERO.
Apparently Spectrum calls client isolation “UPnP”, once I turned that on everything worked!
thank you!
I am having the same issue and have Spectrum. How do you turn UPnP on? @Tylerelder
How do you change this setting? I have spectrum also.
In the spectrum app there is a Upnp switch, but it’s STILL blocking my Roku.
I need to reset Upnp like every three days to keep it working Roku Streaming Stick (3600 series)
We had the same problem. What worked for us is to connect the TV's ethernet port to the router directly using an ethernet cable. The device showed up after that.
